As the Christian faith spread throughout the world, priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters (monks/nuns) took on the role of Catechists. Catechists were in charge of instructing Catechumens in preparation for Baptism and Candidates who were preparing for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Reconciliation and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

Today, however, this role has been taken on by parents and members of the parish community who teach children and adults religious education, both by word and by example, under the direction of the parish priest.

The Catechists at Our Lady of Fatima are involved in leading our Children's Liturgy group during our 11am mass on Sundays, the First Holy Communion and Young Adults Confirmation and RCIA groups as well as preparing couples for the Sacrament of Marriage.

All our Catechists are vetted (CRB checked) and have received Child Protection training - they meet to plan their programmes of activity on a regular basis.

If you'd like to get involved or need further information, please contact the presbytery (parish office).
