Rosary Group

Following each Weekday and Saturday morning mass, our Rosary Group prays the Holy Rosary. Fellow parishioners lead the group in prayer and everyone is welcome to join. A typical Rosary takes around 20 minutes to complete.

About The Rosary

The Rosary is the story of the New Testament - the prayers follow the life of Mary and Jesus. In 1917 when Our Lady appeared at Fatima, she told the three peasant children to pray the Rosary frequently for world peace. Praying the Rosary is extremely powerful, especially against Satan. In October 2002 Pope John Paul II added an additional Mystery - 'Mysteries of Light' to the Holy Rosary and called for a renewal of devotion, asking for everyone to pray the Rosary daily for families and again for world peace.

The Four Mysteries are prayed on different days of the week as follows:

1. The Joyful Mystery (five in total) - Mondays and Saturdays
2. The Mysteries of Light (five in total) - Thursdays
3. The Sorrowful Mysteries (five in total) - Tuesdays and Fridays
4. The Glorious Mysteries (five in total) - Wednesdays and Sundays

When the Rosary is prayed in a group one person leads the Rosary and the rest of the group responds. The leader will announce the mystery before each decade is prayed.

How to Pray the Rosary:

1. Make the Sign of the Cross

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Apostles' Creed

Leader: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

Response: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

3. Our Father

Leader: Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Response: Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

4. Hail Mary (x3)

Leader: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Response: Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

5. Glory Be

Leader: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Response: As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

6. Fatima Prayer

All: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy.

The Rosary is made up of 'decades'. A decade is one 'Our Father' followed by ten 'Hail Mary's' and a 'Glory Be'. At the start of each decade the Leader will announce the Mystery for that day.

Final Prayers

Hail, Holy Queen

All: Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope, to thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears; turn, then most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Leader: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

Response: that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let Us Pray

All: Let us pray, O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life death and Resurrection, has purchased for us the reward of eternal salvation. Grant we beseech Thee that while meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael Prayer

All: Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and the snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Host cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
