Company: How Do I Find....?

Below is a list of many of the most common types of information or data sought by scholars researching companies. Most of the items listed are available only to authorized SUNY Old Westbury users (students, faculty, and staff) or to visitors using the library computers. Some resources are, however, paper resources available only at the library, and some others are available on the open Web. They are identified as shown below:

Beta for a Company

Note: the beta figure is a measure of a stock's sensitivity to the movement of the market.

IN -- Yahoo! Finance--in stock quotes, under key statistics.

Books about a Company

IN --  P -- OWLCat--the online catalog for the SUNY College at Old Westbury Library. Search for books, periodicals, dictionaries and encyclopedias.
OW -- P -- WorldCat--this is a catalog covering most other libraries, all in one place. If you do find something at another library that you need for your research, you can order it through ILLiad, the interlibrary loan system.

SWOT Analysis

NOTE: SWOT refers to Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. You can find sample SWOT analyses from Business Source Premier (link below). You should, however, be able to prepare your own SWOT analysis of a company using the information and data in the various Company Directories such as Mergent Online, S&P Net Advantage, Value Line, and Business & Company Resource Center. All of these databases are listed above under Companies.
