An excellent source of up-to-the-minute news and information. Includes full text access to major newspapers and journals throughout the world, wire services, and some news broadcast transcripts. LexisNexis is also an excellent source of business information, and it is Old Westbury's primary resource for legal research.
Published in print and online 44 times a year, the single-themed CQ Researcher report offers in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy. Each 12,000-word CQ Researcher report is a unique work, investigated and written by a seasoned journalist. It can be read in its entirety or by section, which include a background and chronology; an assessment of the current situation; tables and maps; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; and bibliographies of key sources.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
Similar to CQ Researcher, the Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center brings together a variety of materials to help students fully understand controversial issues: pro and con viewpoint articles, reference articles that provide context, full-text magazines, academic journals, and newspapers, primary source documents, government and organizational statistics, multimedia, including images and podcasts, links to hand-selected web sites, and more.
Journals and Periodicals (Articles)
Academic Search Premier is a multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 7,000 full-text periodicals, including nearly 6,000 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the full-text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 11,000 journals and a total of more than 11,600 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 journals.
ProQuest Research Library
ProQuest Research Library provides access to a wide range of popular academic subjects. The database includes more than 4,070 titles—nearly 2,800 in full text—from 1971 forward. It features a highly-respected, diversified mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers.
JSTOR stands for "Journal Storage." It is an excellent source of basic materials on a wide range of topics, and it is particularly useful for older articles and sources.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.
Oxford Reference Online Premium
Oxford Reference Online Premium includes over 170 titles, updated regularly with an expanding range of key titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions and Oxford Dictionaries series plus the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. The database can be searched as a whole or limited to one or more subjects, or to one or more individual books.
