Home Remedies for Whitening your Teeth

Don't pay more for high-priced teeth whiteners when you can do it yourself at home for just pennies.



1. Baking Soda
Ingredients: Baking Soda, Tooth Paste, 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, Water         
Instructions: Mix in a covered container 1/2 teaspoon toothpaste with one teaspoon baking soda, one teaspoon 3% hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 teaspoon water and thoroughly combine all ingredients. Brush teeth with the mixture for at least 2 minutes. Repeat once a week until whitening results are achieved then limit to one treatment per month. 

2. Herbal Whitening Paste
IngredientsBaking Soda, Sea Salt, Dried Powdered Ginger, Peppermint Essential Oil

Instructions: Mix in an airtight container two tablespoons baking soda with 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger and 3 drops peppermint essential oil. Each time you brush add 1/2 teaspoon of the powdered mixture into toothpaste. The baking soda in this remedy helps to whiten teeth and freshen the breath while the sea salt tightens gums. The peppermint oil and ginger also help to fight bacteria. 

3. Lemon Rind 
Rub the rind of a lemon on teeth and gums to whiten and strengthen both. Repeat remedy several times a week until the desired whitening effect is achieved.                                                                  

4. Stain Removing Tooth Paste 
IngredientsSea Salt, Baking Soda

Instructions: Use mortar and pestle to pulverize sea salt then combine 1 part salt with two parts baking soda. Dip dampened toothbrush into mixture and brush teeth. Many people claim this remedy works great for removing coffee and tea stains from teeth.   

5. Apple 
Eating an apple with the skin still on has a disinfecting effect on the teeth while massaging your gums which increases blood circulation and nourishment.  

6. Strawberry Stain Remover
Mix 1 teaspoon of crushed fresh strawberries and rub onto teeth then rinse with warm water. Properties within strawberries lighten stains over a period of use. 

7. Orange Peels
There are properties within the peel of oranges that can whiten teeth when rubbed over them several times a day over a period of continual use. Rub teeth with the inside of the peel. 

8. Banana Peel
Same as orange peels, banana peels contain properties that can whiten teeth along with age spots. Rub inside of the banana peel over teeth to whiten and lay across age spots to lighten.  

9. Olive Oil
Over a period, and continual use olive oil can whiten teeth. Swish some olive oil around in your mouth for a minute or two twice a day. Use about one teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil. 

10. Holy Basil 
This herb has properties that help to protect and whiten teeth. Grind a few holy basil leaves into a powder then mix with your regular toothpaste and brush. 

11. Charcoal 
This remedy one of the best teeth whitening remedies. Charcoal has a powerful chemical base that will whiten teeth in just one application. Mix some charcoal powder with your regular toothpaste and gently brush.You can use regular charcoal or supplement. 

12. Burnt Rosemary
Grind some burnt rosemary into a powder then add into regular toothpaste and brush. Similar whitening properties as the charcoal remedy. 

13. Neem
The astringent properties in neem will whiten teeth with regular use. Grind dried neem leaves or use powder and add to regular toothpaste. 

14. Margosa Oil
Antiseptic and astringent properties of margosa oil help to resolve bad breath and whiten teeth. Add a drop to brush with regular toothpaste. 

15. Turmeric 
Mix four tablespoons of turmeric powdered spice with two tablespoons baking soda and 2-1/2 tablespoons coconut oil to create a thick paste. Brush once a day until the desired whitening is achieved then once a week for maintenance whitening. Ingredients should last up to 20 uses.
