Top 20 Home Remedies to Soothe and Heal a Sore Throat


Try these simple home remedies to relieve the pain and discomfort of a raw or scratchy throat.


                       




                                                                                                

1. Lemon 
Roast 2/3 of a lemon on the grill or in the oven until peel turns golden brown. Once golden brown remove from heat and allow to cool for a minute then squeeze out the juice into a cup and mix in 1 teaspoon of honey then drink. Will smooth the discomfort of a sore throat within minutes. 

 

2. Coconut Oil
Ingest a tablespoon of coconut oil allowing the oil to coat your throat slowly. Properties in coconut oil help to protect the throat, fight infections and ease sore throat pain.





3. Jello and Honey
Mix 1/2 teaspoon of dry jello powder with one cup of hot water and a teaspoon of honey to soothe a sore throat. 





4. Vinegar and Salt
Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with one teaspoon salt in one cup of warm water and stir until salt dissolves. Gargle with the mixture several times a day to relieve a raspy sore throat.  




5. Vinegar and Honey
 Mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup honey and ingest one tablespoon every four hours for cold or flu sore throats.  (Never give a child under the age of one honey.) 




6. Vinegar and Hot Sauce
Mix 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/2 cup water, four teaspoons honey and one teaspoon of hot sauce. Swallow 1 tablespoon of the mixture 4-5 times a day for sore throats and coughs. (Never give children under the age of one honey.)




7. Garlic
 
Garlic has potent antibacterial and antiseptic properties which help to fight infections, so add some garlic into some hot soup to help relieve discomfort and kill bacteria. 




8. Scratchy Throat 
Gargle with one part lemon juice and one part warm water. The properties in lemon help to fight bacteria that can cause a scratchy sore throat. Repeat several times a day if necessary. 




9. Horehound Candy or Dried Herb
Horehound helps to reduce inflamed throat tissues. Steep two teaspoons of chopped horehound herb in one cup boiling water for 10 minutes. Strain then drink. 




10. Salt and Water
Grandma's sore throat remedy really works! Mix 1/4 teaspoon of salt with 1 cup of warm water and gargle. Use the hottest water you can tolerate. Cold water is ineffective. 




11. Listerine
Gargle with some Listerine to kill germs and bacteria. It also helps to neutralize acids in the throat that contribute to discomfort. 




12. Sage

To soothe a sore throat and swollen nasal passages with this healing sage drink. Mix 1 teaspoon of dried sage and 1/2 teaspoon alum, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 3/8 cup vinegar and 1/8 cup warm water. 




13. Turmeric
A very powerful healing spice and anti-oxidant which some doctors believe helps to fight and prevent various cancers. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon salt with 1 cup hot water and gargle. 




Wheatgrass has many health benefits. It prohibits bacterial growth and eases the discomfort of a sore throat. 





15. Clove
Mix 3 teaspoons of powdered or ground clove into a glass of water then gargle. Cloves have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help to heal. 



16. Tomato Juice
To relief discomfort gargle with some tomato juice mixed with 1/2 cup of hot water. Add a few drops of hot pepper sauce for added antioxidant properties and faster relief. 



17. Myrrh
Myrrh is highly astringent that combats inflammation. Gargle several times a day with a few drops of tincture of myrrh in one cup of warm water. 




18. Licorice Root
To soothe a sore throat and reduce coughing gargle with a solution of licorice and water. Mix 1 teaspoon of licorice syrup or powder with an 8-ounce glass of warm water. 




19. Raspberry Tea
An old time remedy for treating the flu. Steep two teaspoons of dried raspberry tea leaves with 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Strain and gargle with the solution when it reaches a comfortable temperature




20. Echinacea Herb and Supplement

This powerful herb kills viruses. Consider taking a supplement or mix two teaspoons of tincture of echinacea into 1 cup warm water and gargle several times a day. It will soothe sore throat pain and boost your immune system as it fights infection.
