Home Remedies for Oily Skin


Avoid harsh chemicals to remove excess oils from your skin which can over the dry skin causing damage. 
Use gentle herbs to control oil and tighten pores. 
For deep cleansing, treatments steam and apply facial masks at least twice a week. 
Facial Remedies that gently Clean, Exfoliate, Treat and Care for Oily Skin.






1. Anti-bacterial Soap
Wash face throughout the day with antibacterial soap to kill acne causing bacteria. 



2. Baking Soda
Mix water and baking soda creating a spreadable paste and massage over face then rinse with lukewarm water. The grainy texture of baking soda will exfoliate the skin while it removes oils and disinfects the skin. Finish by rinsing and applying a light moisturizer. 



3. Buttermilk
Massage buttermilk onto complexion after cleansing to help remove trapped dirt and tighten pores. Leave buttermilk on for a few minutes then rinse with cool water. Repeat several times a week to pores clean.



4. Citrus Essential Oils
Use lemon, grapefruit, or oranges to reduce oil. Add a few drops of essential oil to your skin tone, Aloe vera gel moisturizer or witch hazel toner to combat excess oil. 



5. Clay or Mud Mask
IngredientsWitch Hazel, Bentonite, Cypress Oil, Lemon Oil

To reduce oil and tone the skin use a clay or mud mask such as bentonite, which is available in most natural food stores. Just add one teaspoon of witch hazel to clay mask and blend thoroughly. Then add two drops of cypress oil and two drops of lemon oil to control overactive oil glands. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes or until the clay is completely dry then rinse off with cool water. Repeat once a week.



6. Egg Whites
Mix 1 teaspoon of dark honey with one egg white and mix thoroughly creating a thick paste. Apply egg mask onto complexion avoiding skin around eyes and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off after time with lukewarm water.  



7. Flaxseed Oil
Add one tablespoon of flaxseed oil into your diet to help reduce oily skin. Flaxseed oil is high in essential fatty acids, which help to improve oily skin. 



8. Lavender and Neroli
In a spray bottle combine a few drops of lavender essential oil with a few drops of neroli oil and 1/2 cup of water. Shake ingredients then spray over complexion several times a day to reduce oil. These particular oils act as a cleanser and toner. A fantastic facial remedy for hot summer days. 



9. Loose Powder
Throughout the day blot your skin with loose facial powder to absorb oils. Use a new disposable cotton pad applicator each time to reduce contamination of bacteria. 



10. Mango
Mash a ripe mango into a thick pulp and massage onto complexion then leave on for 5-10 minutes rinsing with lukewarm water when finished. This facial remedy helps to exfoliate the skin unclogging pores while removing excess oils. 



11. Oats
Grind one teaspoon of dry oats then moisten with a splash of witch hazel to create a thick paste. Apply the mixture onto complexion massaging gently for a minute or two then rinse with warm water. The textured mask gently exfoliates the skin and absorbs oil. 



12. Peppermint
Boil one tablespoon of dried peppermint herb in one cup of water and steep for 30 minutes. After the mixture is cool apply onto complexion with a cotton ball to absorb oils, then rinse.  



13. Herbal Milk Cleanser
IngredientsPlain Low-fat Yogurt, Water, Dried Lavender, Dried Peppermint

Lavender and peppermint absorbs and eliminates oils without drying the skin.  Mix 1/2 cup yogurt with 1/2 cup water, two tablespoons dried lavender and one tablespoon dried peppermint and refrigerate overnight. The following morning moisten your skin with warm water then soak a cotton ball in the solution and wipe over complexion several times to cleanse skin. Rinse and apply a toner such as lemon juice and a light moisturizer. Store remaining solution in refrigerator up to one week. 



14. Crab Apple
Mash a crab apple into a thick paste and apply onto your skin leaving on for 20 minutes then rinse off with lukewarm water. Crab apples are rich in alpha hydroxy acids that help to tone, soften and moisturize oily skin while absorbing oils.



15. Lemon Juice and Apple
IngredientsLemon Juice, Apple, Dried Sage, Dried Lavender, Dried Peppermint

Mash an apple into a smooth paste then mix in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, one teaspoon dried sage, lavender or peppermint and apply the mixture onto complexion leaving on for 5 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water. 



16. Witch Hazel
After washing face soak a cotton ball with witch hazel and dab over the complexion to remove oils and tighten pores.



17. Yarrow
Herb has astringent properties. Mix 1 tbs of yarrow with 1 cup of boiling water and allow to steep for 30 minutes then strain the mixture and wait till cool. Apply room temperature liquid to face with a cotton ball to absorb oil. Keep the leftover mixture in the refrigerator for later use. 



18. Wheat Germ Oil
Massage wheat germ oil onto complexion and leave on for one hour rinsing with lukewarm water when finished. Wheat germ oil contains vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that also helps to prevent sun damage and protects against environment pollution.  



19. Sage
Boil one tablespoon of dried sage in one cup of water and steep for 30 minutes then allow mixture to cool. Once cooled dab mixture onto complexion with a cotton ball to absorb oils then rinse.
