from your Home, Yard, and Pets

Remove, Repel and Keep Insects & Bugs Away!
Home remedies to eliminate insects from around your home.

  • Ants and Slugs won't go near chalk! So draw a line across doorways or any other area you see them.
  • Drizzle a little vegetable oil near areas you want to keep ants from coming into.
  • Grind a lemon or orange peels then add water and pour around areas where ants found.
  • Use duct tape to prevent ants from entering by placing sticky side up where they're entering.
  • Ants dislike peppermint and clove! So apply some oil onto cotton balls and place in areas where ant are seen to drive them away.

  • Make a strong tea of Feverfew for a non-toxic rinse for your pet or for a mosquito repellent for you and your family. Make a solution by pouring boiling water over herbs and allow to cool before using.
  • Fill a spray bottle with 1 part vodka and 3 parts water and spray away gnats.

  • Mix 1 cup of liquid dish soap with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 quart of water. Apply the mixture onto your pet's fur working through completely, then allow to remain on for 5 minutes. When finished rinse away fleas with clean water.
  • To prevent your pet from getting fleas add a bit of apple cider vinegar to their drinking water.
  • Spray animals (carefully avoiding their eyes) with Skin-so-Soft bath oil from Avon. Can use it on yourself, too. It keeps fleas and mosquitoes away.

Fruit Flies
  • Fill a jar halfway with apple cider vinegar. Punch a few holes in the lid then screw cover on and leave out where flies were seen.  They will be attracted to the scent and drowned in solution.

  • Rub exposed skin with orange or lemon peels to protect yourself against insect bites.
  • Mosquito Oil Repellents: Citronella Oil, Geranium Oil, Clove Oil, Cedar Oil, Castor Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Rosemary Oil, Lemon Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Oil. Just rub any of these oils onto your skin to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
  • Essential Oil Mixtures: Mix essential oils mentioned above with vodka, witch hazel or purified water to make an insect repellent spray.
  • Pennyroyal is a natural insect repellent. This oil is the strongest of all the essential oils which have been used for centuries to repellent insects.
  • Catnip Essential Oil: Very expensive oil, but even 1% will repel mosquitoes. Combine into a spray bottle  5 tablespoons catnip oil with 1 cup isopropyl alcohol and 1 cup water. Shake well and spray onto clothing, arms and legs being careful to avoid eyes or open cuts. Some people may be sensitive to catnip oil so use caution. If irritation occurs discontinue use.
  • Have you been Bitten? Dab some hemp seed oil on the bite to relieve itching. Repeat as needed.

Moths and Other Similar Insects
  • Remove insects from cabinets and pantries by filling a bowl with 1- 1/2 cups of apple cider vinegar and a couple drops of liquid soap. Place bowl on a shelf for a week then remove the bowl with floating insects. After removing bowl wash down inside of the cabinet with 2 cups of baking soda with 1-quart water.

  • Keep flies away by hanging a half-full zip-lock baggie with water and 4 pennies inside. Works like a charm! (Don't know how it works, but I've tried this and it works great!  watch video)
  • Apply a liberal amount of vinegar around the perimeter of pools and decks to keep flies and bugs at bay.
  • Use duct tape as fly-strip by hanging tape near lights where flies gather.

  • Chop some cucumber skins and combine with a few crushed bay leaves and spread area problem areas.
  • Repel roaches with catnip and hot water. Strain ingredients then pour into spray bottle and spray around areas where roaches were seen.
  • Mix 2 cups borax with 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 2 tablespoons cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water and shape into small balls. Place several balls into 'unsealed' plastic bags and put in problem areas. CAUTION! This is a poisonous mixture. Place out of reach of children and pets.

  • Put lemon slices down where silverfish are appearing and replace lemon every two days.

Tick Removal
  • Apply some petroleum jelly onto affected area and leave on for 20 minutes to easily remove ticks

  • Fill a wide mouth jar with 1 cup sugar and 1-1/2 cup water. Fill a jar and leave in an area where wasps are swarming. They'll be attracted to the sugar and will drown trying to eat.
