Remedies to Relieve Ear Aches, Pressure & Wax Buildup

Air Travel can cause a lot of discomfort for many people. Here are a few home remedies you can try to relieve and prevent discomfort. 
If you already have sinus pain, and pressure air travel can be painful. Before boarding a plane use a nasal spray or oral decongestant to help alleviate pressure and pain. 





Remedies to Alleviate Air Travel Pressure



1. Swallow Hard  
When you swallow hard, you activate the muscle that opens the Eustachian tube which helps to relieve ear pressure pain on airplanes. 



2. Chew a Piece of Gum 
Chewing a piece of gum helps to induce swallowing which opens the Eustachian tube relieving pressure. 



3. Yawn 
Yawning helps to open the Eustachian tube and helps to reduce the pressure and discomfort. 



4. Olive Oil 
Warm some olive oil slightly then apply a few drops into ear. Once buzzing sensation stops flush with warm water and dry.   
 
                                                      


5. Peppermint Leaves
 
With an eyedropper apply a few drops of peppermint leaf juice into the ear. Then irrigate the ear with warm water and dry.          

     
                              
               
6. Hold your Nose 
With thumb and forefinger pinch nostril tightly closed and with other hand press closed external opening of the unaffected ear and try to blow out through the pinched nostril. You should experience a crackling sensation or a loud popping sound and pain relief. Repeat if necessary. 
(Caution: Do not attempt remedy if you have a sore throat, fever, signs of the flu or upper respiratory infection due to the possibility of infection entering ears.) 




7. Basil and Garlic
Juice some basil leaves and a couple of garlic cloves then apply a few drops into the ear to ease the pain. 




8. Onion
Bake or steam onion until soft then mash a piece to extract juice. Mix warm onion juice with a bit of warm water and apply a few drops into the ear with an eyedropper. Claimed to relieve ear pain in a matter of minutes. 





Remove Wax Build-up Relieving Discomfort



1. Baby Oil 

Softens ear wax build-up with a few drops of baby oil. Use an eyedropper and apply twice a day for no more than  4-5 days. After several days irrigate the ear with warm water and dry ear with a towel. 





2. Diluted Laxative 
Dilute a laxative then irrigate the ear with the solution then flush with warm water and dry. 




3. Ear-Scratcher 
Use this ear cleaning device call the ear-scratcher and combined with warm water.




4. Glycerin 
Apply a few drops with an eye dropper to ear twice a day and no more than five days to soften ear wax. 






5. Hydrogen Peroxide 
Use an eyedropper and apply a few drops into the ear twice a day repeating no more than 4-5 days. After two days of drops irrigate the ear with warm water and gently dry with a towel. 




6. Olive Oil
Apply a few drops of warm olive oil then flush the ear with warm water. When finished apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to help moisture and prevent infection. 



7. Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol 
Mix equal parts white vinegar with rubbing alcohol and irrigate the ear with the solution then pat dry. Treatment recommended before showering.



8. Warm Water 
Irrigate the ear with warm water and allow to sit for 10 seconds then dry the ear thoroughly with a towel.




9. Mineral Oil 
Soften ear wax with a few drops of mineral oil twice a day for no more than five days. After several days of drops irrigate the ear with warm water and dry.
