1. Air Freshener
Mix 2 cups warm water with 2 tablespoons baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and pour into spray bottle and spray in every room in your home to freshen.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
2. Battery Leaks 
To clean battery acid leaks inside devices simply by mixing baking soda and water creating a paste consistency and spread on battery terminals leaving on for 15 minutes then wiping clean.                                                                                                                                                                                                      
3. Musty Book Odors
Place an open box of baking soda on shelves to absorb odors.          

4. Braided Rug Repair
Use a hot glue gun to repair an unraveling rug.          
5. Broken Glass
After picking up large pieces of broken glass, lay down a wet newspaper and wipe over the floor. The small shards of glass will stick to paper for easier clean up.            

6. Cabinet Door Protectors
Thinly slice a bottle cork and glue onto corners of doors to prevent them from slamming and causing damage to doors and cabinets.                                                                                                                             
7. Carpet Beverage Stains
Remove coffee and tea stains on carpets with beer. Pour a little bit of beer on the stain and allow to dry. Repeat until stain disappears then blot with cold water.         

8. Carpet Deodorizer 
Mix 3 cups water with 1/2 cup liquid fabric softener and spray carpet. The solution will deodorize the carpet and eliminate static.                                                                                                                     
9. Carpet Grease Stains
Pour cornstarch on the grease spot and work into carpet fibers with your fingers and leave on overnight. The next day vacuum. (Don't apply liquid of any kind!)                 

10. Drapes Fading 
Help to keep drapes bright by submersing them in a solution of salt and water then washing as usual. Salt will help to set the color and protect drapes from sun damage and fading.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
11. Fingerprint Prevention on Wood
Rub surface of a wood table with cornstarch to get rid of and repel fingerprint marks.   

12. Gutter Leaks
Patch a leaking gutter with roofing cement and aluminum foil by layering with cement then foil several times to seal leak.                                                                                                         
13. High Ceiling Cleaning Tips
Use an extension painting pole and unused roller to easily roll over high ceilings collecting dust and cobwebs.                                                                           
14. Keep Insects Out
Place a wrapped piece of gum on the pantry shelf to keep insects out.                

15. Magic Marker Remover on Wood
To remove permanent marker stains saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and clean away marker stain then wipe with damp cloth.       

16. Sharpie Marker Stains
Clothing Stains: hand sanitizer 
Walls: toothpaste or hairspray 
Wood: rubbing alcohol 
Carpets: white vinegar
Furniture: milk
Whiteboard: pencil eraser
Ceramic or Glass: 1 part toothpaste and 1 part baking soda                                                        
17. Paint Brushes
To clean dried paint from brushes soak them in Murphy's Oil soap for 24 to 48 hours. Paint will dissolve leaving the paint brush like new.  
18. Painting Tips
Wrap wet paint brushes in a plastic bag to easily continue painting the next day without having to clean brushes between breaks.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
19. Paint Removal from Window Panes
Remove paint from a window panes with hot vinegar. Allow the vinegar to sit on paint stain for a minute or two then wipe clean.                                                               
20. Paint Removal on Windows
Use nail polish remover to remove dried on paint from windows.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
21. Paint Spills on Carpets
Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar with 1 tablespoon dishwasher liquid soap and one quart water. Douse area with mixture and rub clean. Use same ingredients for carpet stains.              
22. Picture Hanging Tips
Prevent walls from chipping when hammering a nail to hang a picture by placing a piece of scotch tape over the area nail is inserted. 
23. Preserving Paint
Before closing paint can cover paint with a round piece of foil.            

24. Remove Rust
Remove rust from nuts, bolts, door hinges and any metal object by soaking them in vinegar overnight then drying then next morning to prevent corrosion.            
25. Scratches on Glass
Apply a small amount of toothpaste on scratches and rub with soft cloth until scratches disappear then wipe clean with damp cloth.          
26. Sharpen Scissors
To sharpen scissors cut through several layers of aluminum foil several times to sharpen dull scissors.                                                                                        
27. Silence a Squeaky Door 
Apply some talcum powder on door hinges or rub hinge with candle wax to lubricate and to eliminate squeak.                                                                                          
28. Silver Storage Protection
Cover silver with aluminum foil or plastic wrap to protect against tarnishing while storing long term.                                                                                                                                                                  
29. Shower Stall Stains
To remove built-up grime on a shower stall use oven cleaner as a last resort.  Spray on and leave for 30 minutes to an hour then wipe clean with damp cloth.             
30. Stainless Steel Stains
Use pledge to remove sink stains and to shine.                   
31. Sticking hair to open Drawers
Rub a candle or bar of soap along runners to eliminate sticky drawers.         

32. Wood Scratches
Rub vegetable or canola oil onto surface and rub away the appearance of scratches on wood surfaces then wipe with damp cloth.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                
33. Wood Scratches and Dents
Rub a walnut on damaged areas and watch scratches disappear.   

34. Wood Floor Cleaner and Polish
Mix one gallon of hot water with 3/4 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup lemon juice. Apply with damp mop then allow solution to dry; no need to rinse. The hot water and lemon cleans while the olive oil leaves a beautiful sheen.            
35. Unclog Drains
Pour 1/2 cup of dishwasher gel detergent down drain followed by boiling water.           
36. Vinyl Floor Lifting Repair
Cover lifting tile with foil shiny side down and apply a hot iron until glue becomes sticky once again then place heavy object over tile overnight.                        
37. Window Frost
Mix 1 cup salt with 1 liter water and sponge onto inside of windows and wipe dry with newspaper. Prevents frost from forming during the winter months.                   
38. Wood Water Marks
Use a little petroleum jelly to remove white water mark stains from wood. Just rub petroleum jelly onto stain leaving on for several hours then wiping clean.                         

39. Yellowing Tub Stains
Mix a handful of salt with turpentine and rub onto enamel then wash as usual. It's recommended to do a patch test first.
