Home Remedies to Remove and Protect your Hair from Hard Water Minerals and Chlorine Stains!

If you have light colored hair and swim in chlorine pools often or have a lot of minerals deposits 
in your household water you may notice a green or blue hue on your hair, especially on the ends
This is a reaction to chlorine and minerals.
Try these home remedies to help prevent staining or remove stains.



              


How to 'Prevent' Hair Stains



1. Conditioner
Saturate your hair with conditioner before going swimming in a chlorine pool (leaving it in hair) then rinse when finished swimming and shampoo. 



2. Rinse out Chlorine
Rinse your hair immediately after swimming with warm water then shampoo to remove chlorine from hair preventing staining.



3. Cover Hair
Wear a bathing cap when swimming in chlorine pools to protect hair.



4. Aloe Vera Gel
Apply some Aloe Vera Gel into your hair before going swimming in chlorine pools then shampoo out after and condition hair.



5. Nexus
Use Nexus Aloe Rid shampoo before going swimming in chlorine pools and again after. Available in most beauty salons. 



6. Baking Soda 
Add a tablespoon of baking soda to shampoo and wash hair with mixture after swimming in chlorine pools then finish with a conditioner.



7. White Vinegar
Rinse hair immediately after swimming in chlorine pools with white vinegar then rinse out with cold water and finish by shampooing and conditioning the hair.       






How to 'Remove' Hair Stains




1. Alka-Seltzer 
Dissolve two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a 1/4  cup of water then add two tablespoons shampoo. Apply mixture to hair and massage through for thoroughly then allow to sit on hair for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and condition. The citric acid will remove the green staining.      

                                               
 

2. Baking Soda 
Mix 5 tablespoons of baking soda with 2/3 cup water and mix thoroughly to combine ingredients. Fill a spray bottle with solution. After shampooing apply onto damp hair and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse out with cool water.  

    
          

3. Club Soda
Rinse hair after swimming in a chlorine pool with club soda to remove chlorine and to prevent hair from staining further.           



                
4. Coke
Apply some coke a cola onto stained hair and leave on for 5-10 minutes then rinse out and shampoo. Repeat until hair stain is neutralized or removed. 

      
                         
 

5. Vinegar 
Apply white vinegar onto hair and leave on for 5-10 minutes then shampoo and condition. Repeat until hair stain is thoroughly removed.  



6. Ketchup
After a day of swimming in a chlorine pool apply either tomato sauce or ketchup to hair and leave on for 30 minutes then shampoo. The red staining properties of tomatoes will neutralize the green to prevent staining.
