Dear Parents,
Gears are grinding, wheels are turning, plans are in progress, and the date for our long-awaited trip, which will be to Splish Splash water park, is set! We will be going on Wednesday, June 29th. The cost of the trip will be $65 per swimmer and will include transportation costs, entrance tickets, and lunch. Swimmers may bring additional money for extra food and souvenirs, but they will be responsible for what they bring. Our tentative itinerary is that we will meet outside Fort Hamilton High School at around 8:00am, hopefully leave at 8:30am, and come back around 6pm.
We are recruiting parent chaperones to help the coaches supervise the trip: if you expressed interest in being a chaperone in the survey, you'll also be getting a separate email about that (it's important too, so don't ignore it). At the park, we will divide into prearranged groups based on age - each group will have adults to oversee the kids.
Although the OLAN girls team will not be coming, we are extending this invitation to any siblings of the OLAN boys' team swimmers, as long as they can swim.
St. Sebastian's Swim Team is going on this trip as well (though they are obviously travelling separately since they are in Queens), so we'll be seeing them there. I don't even think I need to mention this, but just in case: they may be our rivals, but they are not our enemies - be nice! This is supposed to be a friendship-building experience, and we're all there to have fun.
As for transportation: we will be renting a charter bus (with a bathroom, I believe), so those of you who expressed a preference for a team bus in the survey will be traveling by bus. We will also arrange carpool groups for the people who said they would prefer to go by car (although if it turns out we have enough people to fill two buses, we might just decide to hire two buses). For cars, we strongly prefer carpooling rather than individual car travel because it cuts down the parking fees and makes things easier in terms of organization. It's also better for the environment. As for the people who said they had no preference, we'll work out whether you will go by bus or by car depending on space availability.
If you cannot come, please let us know by responding to the email that was sent out.
If you can come, please confirm by responding to the email as well. If you have more than 1 child, let us know which kids are coming. In addition, please sign the attached permission slip (one permission slip per child) and hand it in at the last practice this Monday with the payment. We can accept cash or checks (checks should be made out to St. Andrew the Apostle Swimming). Please try to have the permission slip & payment ready by this Monday (May 25th), but if for some reason you can't, we will agree on a day when you can drop them off at the pool.
Please include your children's names in the email so that we do not have to figure out who the email applies to based on the sender address. You can also include questions and concerns, or you can voice them in person at the last practice this Monday.
This information has been sent out via email to everyone who filled out the survey. Let us know whether or not you will come. If you did not get the email, that probably means you didn't fill out the survey; fill it out (it was sent out a while ago) and also email us that you are interested, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
WE WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SPEEDY RESPONSES WHETHER YOU ARE COMING OR NOT. A lot of stuff has to happen between now and June 29th in order to make this work.
