The Oklahoma Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP) is a collaboration of agencies, including but not limited to, American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and The Oklahoma United Methodist Church to conduct disaster case management for individuals and families in need of long term recovery. The case management process includes identifying resources in the community to meet the needs of clients. The ODRP partnership extends to all service organizations that have been and will continue to be here for the communities im- pacted and provide vital services to individuals and families affected by the spring 2013 storms. Many agencies are working together in a coordinated effort to support our state during this difficult time and will be here over the months and years to come through the Long Term Recovery Phase to help the community recover and rebuild.
Long Term Recovery is that time following a disaster in which agencies and organizations help affected persons and communities to develop and implement plans and structures for an extended recovery over a period of time. Recovery to each disaster is unique and the long-term recovery (going beyond the relief and initial cleanup to major repairing and rebuilding of homes and lives) may last weeks or years. Five Long Term Recovery Committees (LTRC’s) have developed in various local communities involved in the 2013 spring storms. These LTRC’s enabled the local communities to take ownership in their communities recovery. The ODRP was developed to serve these LTRC’s, their communities and the disaster survivors. One of the biggest VOIDS and challenges in long term recovery is the availability and coordination of adequate resources and skilled labor to repair and rebuild survivors homes.
The Oklahoma United Methodist Church Disaster Response Ministry (OKUMC-DR) has developed a Volunteer Coordination & Construction Project Management Team to serve as a resource to the ODRP disaster case management collaborative and the five Long Term Recovery Committees (LTRC’s). The OKUMC-DR Team’s purpose is to help fill the volun- teer & construction VOIDS that long term recovery brings to disaster survivors. OKUMC-DR will be the Oklahoma Disaster Recovery Project’s Construction & Volunteer Management Team.
