I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. My research is in the areas of comparative politics, comparative political institutions, comparative political economy, democratization, political parties, democratic accountability, elections, bureaucracy, authoritarian regimes, the politics of economic development, and Russia and the former Soviet Union. I am currently working on a book manuscript that examines the emergence of dominant parties in non-democracies. Other current research examines authoritarian elections, the political economy of development in hybrid regimes, electoral accountability, voter mobilization in the workplace, social protest, bureaucratic quality, and opposition coordination under dictatorship.
