Course Offerings

DESKTOP PUBLISHING                 Grade: 9,10,11,12                                Semester

This is a hands-on introduction to desktop publishing. Students will become familiar with publishing software to enhance the design and layout of publications. Letterhead, flyers, brochures, advertisements, newsletters, certificates are examples of student projects.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS                      Grade: 9,10,11,12                                Year-long

General Business provides students with an overview of a variety of topics, including the Economic process, free enterprise system, business organization, change and challenge in the business world, government and business, the consumer in our economy, money and banking, using credit wisely, saving and investing, insuring against loss, career planning, and the world of work. Included in the course will be two field trips – one to a local business and one to a bank. The president of a local bank will also be a guest speaker.

 

MARKETING B                                Grade: 10,11,12                                   Semester

Prerequisite:  General Business and Marketing A

Marketing – Comprehensive courses focus on the wide range of factors that influence the flow of goods and services from the producer to the consumer.  Topics may include (but are not limited to ) market research, the purchasing process, distribution systems, warehouse and inventory control, salesmanship, sales promotions, shoplifting and theft control, business management, and entrepreneurship.  Human relations, computers and economics are often covered as well.

 

MARKING A                                     Grade : 10,11,12                                  Semester

Prerequisite:  General Business

PERSONAL FINANCE                     Grade: 10,11,12                                   Semester

We will cover the areas of income taxes, employee pay and benefits, budgets, checking accounts, saving and investments and credit. A local stock broker will be a guest speaker.

 

BUSINESS LAW                                Grade: 10,11,12                                   Semester

Business law emphasizes legal issues that touch everyday life. Subject areas covered are crimes, problems in society, buying a car and insurance, renting and buying a home, marriage, divorce, and consumer rights.

 

BUSINESS EDUCATION – ON THE JOB TRAINING      Grade: 12                     Year-long

This course is used as the final business course that allows students to work at a business approved job in the community. The instructor for the enrolled OJT students will locate student approved training sites. Students can expect to perform some of the following skills in the business job that they are assigned: word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, accounting operations, web page development. Students will complete 180 work hours during the two semesters.
