Hammer CW key

by OH6DC

Having problems getting through DX pile-ups? Maybe you are not pounding on the key hard enough.
A handy way to get more punch to your CW signal is to use a hammer CW key. Follow these instructions:

These supplies are needed: an ordinary claw hammer, a piece of sheet metal, a keying cable and some duct tape.

The claw side of hammer head is insulated with duct tape. The metal strip is bended as seen in this picture.

The keying wires are attached to the hammer shaft and the metal strip, using duct tape. The metal strip is then taped on the insulated hammer claws, leaving a small contact gap between it and the hammer face.

The key is now ready to hammer out some CW QSOs. Beware hitting your fingers.
