We are the BGiRo - Boys and Girls in Robotics - Neurons, a First Lego League Robotics Team. We have been preparing for the 2010 First Lego League Robotics Challenge - “Body Forward”. We are from Fairfax County, a Suburb of Washington, DC. A majority of us are in middle school and new to FLL. We meet twice a week, program our robot and perfect our project research.
We learned about biomedical engineering, specifically brain related neurological disorders. We looked at two diseases that affect the brain: Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Then we choose to focus on Alzheimer’s because it is a growing problem without a cure. It affects the elderly, and it is estimated that currently about 5 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer's.
