Odyssey Day Care is looking for qualified part-time child care givers with the opportunity to move to full time lead-provider within a year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Childcare workers nurture and teach children of all ages. The perfect candidate for this position possesses the following:

Odyssey day care employees help preschool children in their educational and personal growth. Under a director's and manager's supervision, they provide all the necessary primary care for infants as well as independent and group activities for toddlers and older children. Through games and exercises, they help children develop self-esteem, curiosity, imagination, physical skills, and speech. Workers also oversee the children's health and nutrition, sometimes having the children participate in the preparation of snacks and lunch. 


In addition to attending to children’s basic needs, these workers organize activities that stimulate the children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. They help children to explore their interests, develop their talents and independence, build self-esteem, and learn how to get along with others. 


Employees are role models for the children that is why when we go outside in the winter we wear snow pants, mittens and hats. We model proper speech, table manners, cooperation, and calm resolutions of disagreements. 


Employees will be given a work schedule via our FB employee group. Once you have your work schedule you will be expected to be at Odyssey on time and prepared to work. Eat before you arrive, do not bring hot beverages. If you are working over lunch, bring your lunch and eat with the children AFTER all of the children have been served. Candidates that have a history of tardiness or sick days need not apply.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Dress requirement:

  1. Arrive clean and presentable

  2. Nice- casual (no skirts)

  3. No flip-flops

  4. Socks please

  5. Dress appropriately for weather and outdoor play; you need to role model appropriate dress for students.

  6. Bring a pair of slippers or indoor sneakers to leave at the daycare

  7. No dangly earrings

  8. Sleeved shirts that cover cleavage

  9. Shorts no shorter than 5 inches above knee

  10. No fake or long fingernails (The longer the nail the more likely it is for bacteria and Candida reside under its free edge.) Http://dermatology.cdlib.org/91/abstracts/nail/17D.html    Also, long nails are more likely to scratch when feeling children or changing diapers. 

  11. If you have tattoo’s, they must be covered while at work.


Odyssey day care employees must  be fingerprinted. Go to https://ny.ibtfingerprint.com 

and register to be electronically fingerprinted. Insert NY922130Z as the ORI number and 194243 as the Agency ID number. Fill in all of the information and pick a date and time to go for your fingerprinting appointment. Make sure you bring two forms of ID. The fingerprinting place is in the Best Western in Canton.


Odyssey day care employees’ earnings vary according to education, experience, and number of hours worked – this will be discussed before commencing employment. In 2009 employees earned salary increases incrementally [ by judgment of the employer.]

  

Tasks

  1. Greet young children as they arrive, help them to remove outer garments, and select an activity of interest. (Make sure to place child's possessions in appropriate ben and hook.)

  2. When caring for infants, cuddle, feed and change them.

  3. Balance individual and group play, and quiet and active time.

  4. Give children some freedom to participate in activities in which they are interested.

  5. Identify children who may not feel well or who show signs of emotional or developmental problems and discuss these matters with their supervisor and the child’s parents

  6. Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games.

  7. Discipline children by redirecting them to special activities

  8. Initiate measures to control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books.

  9. Instruct children in health and personal habits such as washing, eating, resting, and toilet habits.

  10. Assist in preparing food for children and serve meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.

  11. Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.

  12. Accompany children on outings, and to the library, parks and playgrounds.

  13. Dress children and change diapers.

  14. Observe and monitor children's play activities.

  15. Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas.

  16. Help children with homework and schoolwork.

  17. Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to supervisor’s attention.

  18. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.

  19. Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, dusting, cleaning mirrors, dish washing, vacuuming, sweeping, changing of linens, etc.....

  20. Sanitize toys and play equipment.

  21. Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.


YOU WILL NEED TO LEARN:

  2. Mandated Reporter - MUST report to Director any marks, bruises, or suspicions of child abuse that you have.

  3. Communication with Parents

  4. Illness signs and symptoms

  5. Infection Control Procedures - wash wash wash wash wash

  6. Travel Bag for walks and going to the park (tissues, water, first aid kit....)

  7. Changing Table Rules - Keep one hand on the child at ALL times. NEVER EVER WALK AWAY FROM THE TABLE!!!!

  8. Never let a child out of view.. never leave them outside without adult supervision.
