This website was created by Robert Demers, appointed on October 12 of the year 1970 by the Quebec government to negotiate the release of Pierre Laporte, Minister of Labor and Immigration of the Quebec government and of James Richard Cross, British Trade Commissioner, both kidnapped by FLQ terrorists during the month of October 1970.
You will find on this website the following content: my biography and memories of October 12 to December 3, 1970, during what came to be known as the October Crisis. You will also find “additional information”: press release issued by Premier Bourassa' office during the event, the speech and the answers given by Robert Bourassa to the National Assembly of Quebec, the account of the events of December 3, 1970 by Bernard Mergler in the Montreal Star newspaper. You will also find references to videos in which I participated or contributed. Finally, various documents, of the time and subsequent, are mentioned in my remembrances.
This project could not have been realized without the valuable collaboration of my daughter Catherine, who has edited and corrected the texts, the advice and suggestions of my wife Liliane and the technical help of the multimedia integrator Stéphanie of St-Hubert, who integrated the text of my remembrances and photos on my website. I thank them.
