Getting Ready for PARCC 

Are you ready for PARCC?  You can practice the technology skills needed to succeed on the PARCC online assessment by completing the exercises found below in the Tech Tune-up.  

The best way to do well on online assessments is to practice, practice, practice!  In order to help get your skills to tip-top form, practice exercises are arranged according to grade level and focus on the following skill sets:
  • KEYBOARDING
  • MOUSE SKILLS and TOUCH 
  • DRAG AND DROP
  • NAVIGATION

 Keyboarding
These keyboarding exercises introduce students to the keyboard and focus on letter location.

Keyboard Zoo Practice finding letters on the keyboard.
Cup Stacking-Keyboarding Practice finding letters on the keyboard.
Keyboard Climber   Students type the letters as they appear.


Mouse Skills and Touch

Color Paint Draw Practice scrolling and moving.
Magical Capitals Practice pointing and clicking.
Starfall Pattern Maze allows students to practice using the mouse while they practice identifying shapes.
Birthday Candle Counting gives students the opportunity to practice using the mouse while they practice one-to-one counting. 
Alphabet Bingo & Sight Word Bingo allows students to practice using the mouse while practicing letter-sound 
recognition and capitalization.
 


Dragging and Dropping

Practice following instructions, dragging and dropping.


Navigation Skills

Practice navigating a webpage, listen to audio, select pause/play and adjust the volume.
 
 
Word Machine allows students to practice their short vowel sounds while learning how to look for 'Hot Spots' when navigating websites. 
 
Marvin Makes Music is a read aloud that allows students to practice navigation, while listening to reading.
 
Number Chart Game students place numbers in the appropriate location on the number chart while 
choosing between levels and finding hot spots.
  
Keyboarding
Keyboarding exercises designed for beginning skill levels.  These programs and games help students learn and practice their keyboarding skills.

Typing Club Introduces hand positioning and location of letters on the keyboard.  Students choose their own start levels and areas of practice.
Meteor Practice the location of letters on the keyboard.
Type for your Life Practice typing single words on your keyboard.
Numbers Practice using only the number keys.
Math Quiz Practice using numbers while improving your math skills.

Practice following instructions, dragging, dropping, and using the number keypad on your computer.

Typing Club Introduces hand positioning and location of letters on the keyboard.  Students choose their own start levels and areas of practice.

Typing Race Practice typing full sentences.
Articles Practice Typing full sentences.
Math Quiz Practice using numbers while improving math skills.

These exercises are for advanced skill levels.  These programs are designed to increase typing speed and practice with online calculators.

Typing Improve typing speed on upper levels.
Target Test your typing skills and work towards the target.
Calculator Practice  Work with the scientific calculator designed for Grades 7 & 8.
Calculator Practice Work with the scientific/graphic calculator designed for Grades 9-12.
PARCC Tutorial Numeric equation response tool.
 

PARENTS: Please note calculator access for PARCC testing:

Calculator Policy for PARCC

o   Grades 3-5- no calculator

o   Grades 6-7 – 4- function calculator only (NOT scientific). 

o   Grade 8 – Scientific calculator. EXCEPTION: Grade 8 Honors level (Algebra I)- graphing calculator only

o   Grades 9-11- Graphing calculator
