Mrs. Theriault's TV Production Class

Welcome to the new school year!

Since 2012, Oasis students have won numerous awards at the Lee County Student Film Festival.  Last school year, videos produced by Oasis Students received First Place in 5 different categories, Second Place in four categories and Third Place in 2 categories at the District Film Festival.   In 2012,  a music video produced by two Oasis students received "Best in Show" for the middle school division and our School News received "First Place" among Lee County Middle Schools two years in a row.

In 2012, our editing lab received a make-over when our computers were upgraded to iMacs

.  The T.V. Production

classroom affords us the room for several groups to shoot video projects at the same time.  Students can also choose from three different green screen walls to shoot their videos at.   When working on their video projects, students use Canon cameras, various different kinds of microphones and tripods.

Walk into our studio and you will find a chroma key green wall that will allow banter between our talent while in different locations of our virtual set.  Our studio is also outfitted with professional lights and the cameras have teleprompters, so our news anchors can look directly at the camera when they read the news.

Our control room is the heart of the operation.  The switcher, Wirecast Pro software, operates on a MacPro.  It allows us to include wipes, dissolves, lower third graphics, over the shoulder graphics any many more effects, all while we shoot a broadcast.  Also, the virtual sets give our school news a more professional look.

In 2013, I started teaching a News Production class for Oasis High School.  Many of the students in the class have taken Video Production with me at the Middle School.  It has been great for me to watch these young men and women grow from novices to pros in the world of production.

While we have some great equipment for students to work on, ultimately, the equipment is nothing without our students' creativity, imagination and hard work.  I am looking forward to another exciting year and I look forward to watching the creative minds of Oasis students at work!  Go Iguanas & Go Sharks!
