The Episcopal Diocese of California, Sacred Cocktails, Sacred Space — San Francisco, Reconciling Works, and Beaux Bar will be hosting a Pride Mass on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Beaux Bar, 2344 Market Street, in San Francisco’s Castro District. The Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus, bishop of California, will preside. A gospel drag after-party will follow the Mass until 9 p.m.
“We just looked at who was coming to the Pride Mass on Sunday before the parade — and it was just the marchers with us. We want to have a Pride Mass that really celebrates Pride and can involve the whole community,” explained The Rev. Tommy Dillon, chaplain for Oasis California.
“I am delighted that we can begin Pride Week with a celebration of God’s love for all people, and even more delighted that we have found a venue and time that we may be more accessible to those who may have been hurt by the Church, yet long for spiritual community — and for those actively engaging in spiritual practice already,” said The Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California.
Oasis California is the LGBT ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of California. Oasis is comprised of a network of congregations committed to the spiritual empowerment of LGBT people, sharing the Good News of Christ, and advocating for the full inclusion of LGBT people in the Church and the world.
