·         Bijon the therapy dog will be in guidance today between 11:30 – 12:45- Drop by for a visit if you like.

 

·         Prom tickets will be on sale until Monday May 1st on Cashless.  You must bring your contract to the atrium on Monday!  Also stop by the atrium on Monday to reserve a table for Prom.

 

·         Attention all students who participated in Debate this year:  the Debate Club photo will be taken next week on Wednesday May 3rd.

 

·         Congrats to the Varsity Lacrosse team for their wins against Georgetown and Blakelock yesterday.  Despite it being their debut of the season, the boys played amazingly well and dominated the field.  Keep up the good work.

 

·         Yesterday the varsity girls soccer team traveled to Jean Vanier.  The game started off slow with both teams missing on their chances.  A few defensive breakdowns saw the Devils down 2-0 midway through the first half.  A free kick goal by Hannah Treadway pulled the Devils within one at the half.  The team came out hard the second half and carried the play with Courtney Cranmer capitalizing on a penalty shot late in the game.  This gave the Devils a 2-2 draw.

 

·         National Youth Week is just around the corner.  This weekend the YMCA of Oakville is having a  Youth week kick- off event.  There will be fun games, a coffeehouse and free food.  Bring a couple of friends and come join the fun this Sunday April 30th from 4-7 at the YMCA of Oakville.

 

·         Next Monday Relay for Life Bank Days will be starting.  If you have finished fundraising with cash and cheques you can come to the co-op room ( 136) starting next Monday during periods 3 & 4.  The collection days will be Monday – Wednesday of the first three weeks of May.  Remember you can only come once you have finished fundraising with cash and cheques, online fundraising will always be available. Check out the posters around the school for more details.

 

·         Congratulations to the Sr boys rugby team on their 72-0 win against CTK yesterday.  Eric Herauf was Man of the Match but Tanner Murray had the try of the season.

 

·         The Jr boys rugby team took on STA yesterday and in stunning fashion they dominated and won 60-5. 

 

·         Are you interested in being a part of “Play in a Day”?  This year’s event will be held at Nelson H.S. on Thursday May 11th.  We are looking for actors, writers, directors and tech support.  Please come to a brief meeting today after school in the theater.

 

·         Are you a grade 12 student looking for a dress or suit to wear to Prom or Graduation?  Come to a Fashion Forward Open House for new and gently used prom wear, shoes and accessories.  All items have been donated and are available free of charge.  The Open house is today from 3:30 – 6:00 at MM Robinson High School in Burlington.

·         Model UN will be having a meeting next Wednesday after school to take a club picture.

 

·         Prom tickets are on sale on cashless now.  Friday is the last day to buy tickets so please make sure you buy them by this Friday April 28th.  Contracts should be given to the prom committee in the atrium by Monday May 1st.  Stop by the atrium on Monday to pick your table.

 

·         Attention Golf Team members:  if you represented OT in the Halton competition come by room 232 immediately after school so we can take our team picture.

 

·         Are you a grade 12 student looking for a dress or suit to wear to the prom or graduation?  Come to a Fashion Forward open house for new and gently used prom wear, shoes and accessories.  All items have been donated and are available free of charge.  There is an Open House tomorrow April 27th from 3:30 -6:00 at MM Robinson High School in Burlington.

·         Tonight is the night for the OTHS Boston Pizza fundraiser.  Tonight from 5:30 – 8:30 come out to Boston Pizza Winston Park to support our cause.  Check out the posters around the schools to get all of the information you need.

 

·         The Christian Club will be meeting today after school in room 189A.  All students are welcome.

 

·         The registration period for Relay for Life has been extended.  If you have not handed in your forms you will be able to tomorrow periods 3 or 4 in the Devil’s Pit.  Reminder if you have paid on Cashless, this does not mean  you are registered.,  You must still bring in the forms.  Tomorrow is the Final Day !!

 

·         Congratulations to the Sr boys rugby team on their season opener win 59-15 against Blakelock.  Nigel Bannister won Man of the Match.

 

·         Yesterday our varsity girls soccer team played Kings Christian Cavaliers.  The Devils came out a bit slow and let the Cavaliers carry the play.  The team gave up a goal late in the first half and found themselves down 1-0 going into the break.  The Devils came out hard in the second half and despite having a number of good chances could not find the back of the net.  They ended up losing game 1-0.

·         Tomorrow’s the  night OT;  from 5:30 – 8:30 come out to Boston Pizza Winston Park to  support OT Relay for Life.  Your committee chairs will be serving you, and there will be raffles and luminary sales.  10% of sales go to our cause so come out with your family and friends and support a good cause.

 

·         Congratulations to all 16 delegates who participated in Ontario  Model UN this past weekend at Upper Canada College in Toronto.  Over 300 students from 29 schools in Ontario participated in this 2 day conference and OT won the award for the Best Large Delegation.  Individual awards were received by several OT students:  In the Honourable  Mention category, Emily Barber, Callum Sheedy, Michael Lee and Xander Don-Wauchope.  In the Outstanding Delegate category was Josh Hill.  In the Best Delegate category;  Navya Sheth, Ian Greer and Vishal Vijay. 

 

·         On Friday  your  Senior and Junior rugby teams put the rest of the Province on notice with 4 convincing wins over provincial rivals.  The juniors defeated BCI  10 -5 on a try by Olivia Gardiner in the final minutes.  The juniors second match of the day was against the JF Ross Royals which they won 25 -5.  Your senior Devils dominated BCI  41-10 and beat their arch-rivals  JF Ross in convincing fashion winning 36 – 5.

·         Junior boys rugby practice is cancelled tonight.

 

·         Congratulations to OT’s  inaugural Law Society for winning the Halton public mock trial tournament this past Friday.  In their first ever competition the team; consisting of lawyers Xander Don-Wauchope, Javan Jiang, Andrea Jasko and Sabrina Jiang and witnesses Ivonna Petkova and Jennifer Ge sent home last year’s champion and qualified for the championship round where they defeated Garth Webb for the gold.  The team placed first and will compete May 2nd in the Halton Mock Trial Championship Tournament.  Congratulations and good luck to the team on May 2nd.

·         If you want to participate in Relay for Life this year, but don’t have a team, please come see Ms Hanley in room 126 or Ms Piroski in room 189A.  The organizing committee will help you find a team.

 

·         If you haven’t registered for Relay for Life today is y our absolute last chance to do so.  Send your team captain down to the Relay office during periods 3 & 4.  The cost per participant is $25, make sure you have  your forms completely filled out too.  Remember only team captains can register their team and they have to register their full team at once.  If you have paid the Relay Registration fee on Cashless you are still required to give  your forms to the Team Captain to be registered.

 

·         In support of Relay for Life you can go to Boston pizza on Tuesday April 25 between 5:30 and 8 pm where 10% of the sales will be going toward Relay for Life.  There will be fun raffles happening that night as well as luminary sales.

 

·         It’s Friday which means  Board Game Club is back.  Periods 3 & 4 in room 189B.

 

·         Did you know that  Angelina Jolie’s breast cancer announcement doubled the number of women being tested in the first few months.  You too can raise awareness and donations for cancer by joining Relay for Life now.

 

·         There will be a Concert Choir rehearsal today after school.

·         There will be a Concert Choir rehearsal tomorrow after school.

 

·         Congratulations to the Senior and Junior boys rugby teams on their success at this week’s tournaments.  Special congratulations to Sam Borden.

 

·         Attention boys rugby players:  there is a meeting today after school in room 194.  Don’t get changed for practice.

 

·         All students signed up to write AP Exams must attend the mandatory meeting  today during period 3 or 4 lunch in room 195.  Students will be completing portions of their exam answer sheets so expect a 45 minute meeting.  #2 pencils are required.

 

·         If you want to participate in Relay for Life this year but don’t have a team please come see Ms Hanley in room 126 or Ms Piroski in room 189A. The organizing committee will help you find a team.

 

·         In support of Relay for Life you can go to Boston pizza on Tuesday April 25th between 5:30 and 8 pm where 10% of the sales will be going toward Relay for Life.  There will also be fun raffles happening that night as well as luminary sales.

·         Yesterday our Varsity girls soccer team traveled to Bronte Field to take on the Bearcats of Acton.  The girls came out hard and took control of the game en route to a 4-0 victory.  Scoring for the Devils was Courtney Cranmer, Aisling Keogh and Sam Morrison with a pair.  In goal and recording the shut- out was Chloe Barltrop.

·         If you want to wear a daffodil to support the awareness of Relay for Life and the Canadian Cancer society go to the atrium today during periods 3 & 4 to buy a daffodil with a minimum donation of 50 cents.  You have only today and next week  to buy one, so come on out.

 

·         If you  want to participate in Relay for Life this year but don’t have a team please come see Ms Hanley in room 126 or Ms Piroski in room 189A.  You will be placed on a team by the organizing committee.

·         Congratulations to the Junior boys rugby team for their tournament win yesterday despite playing a man down.

 

·         If you want to participate in Relay for Life this year but don’t have a team, please come see Ms Hanley in room 126 or Ms Piroski in room 189A.  You will be placed on a team by the organizing committee.

 

·         Did you know that an estimated 202,000 new cases of cancer and 78,000 deaths from cancer occurred in Canada last year?  You can help lower this number simply by raising money and awareness for Relay for Life.

 

·         Open Improv will not happen today after school.  It will return next Thursday.

 

·         AP Chinese Language Exam students:  please meet at the beginning of  lunch period 3 or 4 today in room 197.  You will be completing a mandatory practice test.  Bring your lunch.

 

·         The Badminton team had a great tournament yesterday at Frank Hayden.  Congratulations to Willa, Liam, Paul, Camryn and Cameron for advancing to GHAC.

 

·         All members of the Junior boys hockey team are asked to attend a short but important meeting today at 2:50 in room 153.  All players must attend.

 

·         This is a reminder that representatives from Utah State University will be here at 11:00 am today in the atrium to give out information and answer questions.

 

·         100 years ago, the Battle of Vimy Ridge was won with the help of the Canadian Armed Forces.  Please take a moment to reflect and remember the  brave Canadians that fought and died for our country at some point today.

 

·         Just a reminder there is a practice after school for the Varsity boys Lacrosse team.  Same place, same time.  All players must attend.

 

·         A representative from Kings at Western University will be here 11:45-12:45 today in the atrium to give out information and answer questions.

 

·         Yesterday the varsity girls soccer team traveled to STA to participate in their early bird tournament.  The girls earned a 0-0 draw with the host Raiders and then met a tough St Michaels team that out scored the Devils 4-2.  In the bronze medal game the team bounced back and beat Owen Sound 4-0. 

 

·         This is a reminder that the first week for regular priced registration is over as of today.  Registration will be a the Relay office during period 3 & 4 for $25.00 today and every day next week.  Only team captains can register people and they have  to register their full team at once.

 

·         It’s an Easter Egg Hunt!  If you find an egg filled with treats its yours, because the Link Crew thinks you are beautiful.  If you have a severe nut allergy give your egg to a friend, while none of the treats contain nuts they may have been produced in the same facility.

·         Public speaking takes courage, public speaking takes eloquence, public speaking takes imagination, intelligence and creativity.  Urmi Sheth and Sophie Jolicoeur-Becotte, two special OT students demonstrated all this and more at yesterday’s Public Speaking Competition in Halton.  Special congratulations to Urmi Sheth for her outstanding speech titled “ Out of the ashes of terrorism”  for which she won the second place award.

 

·         Yesterday the OTHS Junior girls rugby team travelled to Holy Trinity to take on the Varsity Titans.  The young Devils scored early and often, en route to a  62-0 shutout.  Amy Mangiardi led all scorers with 3 first half tries.  Well Done!

 

·         All members of the Junior boys hockey team are asked to attend a short but important meeting Thursday April 13th at 2:50 in room 153.

 

·         Maple Grove public school is having an evening of diversity on April 18th.  They are looking for a student or family that is willing to provide “hennas” during this evening.  Volunteer hours will be given.  If you are interested please see Mrs McRae in the office.

 

·         If you have paid the Relay for Life registration fee on Halton Cashless you are still required to give your forms to your Team Captain to be registered.  Don’t forget to have all forms signed and filled out.

 

·         If you want to participate in Relay for Life this year but don’t have a team, please come see Ms Hanley in room 126 or Ms Piroski in room 189A.

·         Sheridan College- Youth Job Link Program:  never worked before?  If so we can help you find your first job.  Our Community Resource & Information Center is open Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:30.  Located at the Sheridan College Skills Training Center, 407 Iroquois Shore road.  The Youth Job Link Program is free and designed for youth ages 15-29 who have never worked before.  Stop by our Center today to register and bring a copy of your resume if you have one, if not we can help you create one.
