South Island Writers Association is a group of active writers who meet monthly to hone their skills and discuss issues related to writing and publishing. We hold two competitions each month with a judge's discussion accompanying prize giving. Meetings also feature such activities as panel discussions, open mic, and presentations on craft and technique.
Our competition schedules include such genres as
  • Flash fiction and short stories
  • Poetry
  • Book review
  • Memoir
  • Children's picture book
  • Non-fiction adventure
  •  Essay
  • 10-minute play

If you are an active writer we invite you to visit a meeting and give us a try. To join we ask for either proof of publication or samples of your writing for evaluation. We have members of all ages, from all over the South Island (and some North folks, too), and all walks of life.

We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30.
NOTE: We do not meet in January.
