Message from the President

Welcome to the NYS Capital District section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)! The 2017-2018 SWE year is just beginning!

We ended the 2016-2017 year with a celebration for the 15th anniversary of our charter with a wine tasting and silent auction to raise money for the Merit Award Dinner in 2018.  Founding members, past presidents, and active members were in attendance.

Since our first year, NYSCD SWE has reached out to support the local community and encourage talented high school women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  NYSCD SWE honors these young women for their passion and excellence in STEM through our annual Merit Award Dinner.  The students are nominated by their school’s faculty and administration to attend the dinner based on their achievements in math and science, their character, and their desire for a future career in a STEM field.  The Merit Award Dinner provides a unique opportunity for the students to network with their peers, connect with local professionals in STEM fields, and learn from a female keynote speaker about her experiences throughout her career.  This year, our Merit Award Dinner recognized over 60 female students in the Capital Region, along with their families and guidance counselors.

This year we have set several goals as an executive board to bring events to the membership!  If you have any questions or if there is something you would like to see SWE paprticipate in, please email nyscdswe@gmail.com. Our goals for this year are:

  • Host four Outreach events to reach our community.
  • Continuing the Leadership Development Series (LDS).  Our goal is to hold four LDS dinners through the year, and enjoy co-sponsoring some of the dinners with local companies and their Employee Resource Groups. If you or your company are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please reach out to nyscdswe@gmail.com. Additional information can be found on our LDS page on this website.
  • Collecting more photos for our archive.
  • Track the metrics of our events.

We have an fun-filled Fall ahead of us, and are excited to share it with you. Please check our website and calendar for the latest information on our events. If you want to learn more about SWE or join our listserve, please email us at nyscdswe@gmail.com

See you soon!
