Sera Mey Medicine Buddha Practice - October 13-14, 2018

WHAT:
 Sera Mey presents their unique tradition of Medicine Buddha Practice and introductory Buddhism for two days. Programs will include recitation of the Medicine Buddha sutra ritual and practice, teaching on mind training and dedication for the long life of H.H. the Dalai Lama. The most venerable XIV Siling Tongkhor Rinpoche will preside over the practice.

WHERE: Bodkhang (4401 NE 122nd Ave., Portland, OR 97230)

The Sera Mey Group will also be available for special prayers and rituals at home on October 9-12 and 15-17.

  • Sponsor lunch on Saturday, 10/13 and/or Sunday, 10/14; and/or
  • Invite Rinpoche and monks for house blessings, rituals, or prayers. 
All proceeds from their activities will benefit Sera Mey Monastery in South India.


Schedule

October 09th – 12th

8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.: Mandala construction by monks (viewing by the general public is welcome) 


Day One Oct 13, 2018 


9:00 A.M. The image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama that liberates through being seen will be brought into the meeting hall and installed on the Dharma throne. The chanting master will start the mandala offering prayer, along with offering representations of the Buddha’s body, speech, and mind. 


Following this, tea and sweet rice will be offered and Sera Mey Administrator Geshe Ngawang Tsoknyi will make an address describing the purpose and aim of the event to the audience. 


10:30 A.M. In conjunction with the Medicine Buddha mandala, a “Permission Ceremony” (T: jes gnang) will be conferred by H.E. the 14th Siling Tongkhor Rinpoche on the attendees. 


12:00 P.M. Lunch break 


1:30 P.M. Rinpoche will give a Dharma discourse on the history of the Medicine Buddha tradition, along with an explanation of the benefits and meaning of reciting the Medicine Buddha mantra. A Q&A session will follow. 


2:30 P.M. Recitation of the Medicine Buddha Sutra Ritual in the Unique Chanting Style of Sera Mey 


4:00 P.M. Tea break 


4:30 P.M. Recitation of the Short Praise to Medicine Buddha by HH 14th Dalai Lama followed by mantra recitation and Concluding recitation of aspirational prayer and dedication of virtue 


Day Two Oct 14, 2018 


10:15 A.M. Recitation of the Short Medicine Buddha Sutra Ritual 


11:30 A.M. Rinpoche will speak about the faults of anger and the benefits of practicing forbearance. A Q&A session will follow. 


12:30 P.M. Lunch break 


1:30 P.M. Performing a Purification ritual for the deceased 


3:30 P.M. Tea break and mandala viewing for the general assembly 


4:30 P.M. Dissolution of the mandala by the sangha while the general assembly and chanting master recite mantras until the sangha returns 


5:00 P.M. Concluding address of appreciation given by Geshe Ngawang Tsoknyi to all who attended the event. A recitation of an aspirational prayer, dedication of virtue, and auspicious verses will follow.
