Join the NWACC Speech and Debate Team!

What events does the team participate in?
We participate in the
11 AFA-NIET collegiate speech events and IPDA Public Forum Debate.

When are team meetings?  When are coaching sessions? Team meetings are the first Tuesday each month from 12-1 pm (location TBA).  Coaching sessions are available by appointment Tuesdays and Thursday mornings and online via Skype or YouTube.

Do I need experience to participate?
No experience needed!  You just need a desire to grow and improve as an effective, confident communicator!

What tournaments does the team attend?
Mostly local tournaments in NW Arkansas and also online tournaments.  Here is our schedule so far:

 Date       Tournament  Location
Oct. 24-26  Golden Eagle Invitational  JBU
Dec. 7-12    NW Arkansas Champs  Online
Jan. 29-Feb. 1 Southern Forensics Championships/ Arkansas State Tournament  JBU
 Feb. 27-28        Ozark Cup  JBU

There are other tournament possibilities, but team members would need to pay for their travel and entry fees or fundraise.

What are the benefits to competing?
You gain critical thinking, performance, and research skills.  You can win shiny trophies and other cool awards. You will get to meet interesting people from other colleges and universities.  Also, many universities offer forensics scholarships to attend, so competing for NWACC can give you greater chance of winning those scholarships to help pay for your 4-year degree.
