What is the Weekend League Competition?

The Northern Unified Weekend League, in words plagiarised from Bowls Australia “represents our commitment to invest back into the sport, needed if we are to be successful”.

The competition provides a club versus club competition for women on weekends, at times aligning to Men's Pennants.  Through selection principles, NUWL provides a stepping stone for rookie men and women to taste their first inter-club competition. If required, men not selected for pennants, are also able to compete.  Read about 2010 player, Nick Tysoe here.

In 2010, our organising committee “road tested” NUWL with 4 Clubs which  used the competition to mentor and develop their women bowlers, by elevating less experienced bowlers into the skips role, and supporting them with an experienced lead.

In 2011, we steadily grew our competition with Killara joining the fold and taking the 2011 trophy.  The 2012 NUWL competition commenced on 14th April with 5 Clubs (Killara, North Sydney, Neutral Bay, Lane Cove and Artarmon/Gordon).  These team also include single players from nearby  Clubs.  If you or your club are interested in  our NUWL competition, then email one of our organisers.  An information flyer and the Conditions of Play are on our site.

What's Best About Our Competition ?

Holding the League during the mainstream men's pennant season embraces equality in our sport.

Now hand on heart, we can tell the potential female bowlers who work, that we have the avenue to support your competitive desires once taking up lawn bowls.
