It is my pleasure to introduce you to the new Diversity Coalition Executive Board and the mission that we seek to fulfill within the community here at Northwestern University School of Law. The Diversity Coalition was founded in a large part to bring together various student organizations on the law school campus with a shared purpose of promoting diversity. As Northwestern Law School has evolved over the years, so has our mission. Our organization advocates that the concept of diversity stretches beyond conventional categories such as race, gender and religion. As a result, the Diversity Coalition not only provides a forum for racial, religious, and gender issues, but it also provides a voice to the widely different issues that arise from our student body. Whether a student is from the east or west coast, fresh out of college or out for a few years, Democrat or Republican, an under-represented minority or not, the Diversity Coalition recognizes that everyone has a unique perspective and an array of life experiences to contribute--we look forward to getting to know you!

The Executive Board has been hard at work over the summer developing and organizing some great programming for the 2009-2010 school year! One of our major events during the school year is Diversity Week which takes place in September 2009. Our Diversity Week theme is "Re-examining the Definition of Diversity” which will consist of various panels and presentations addressing common myths and stereotypes specifically within the legal and political spheres. We are also coordinating outreach efforts among the various minority student groups, sponsoring diversity dinners where randomly selected students have the opportunity get to know one another, and of course, facilitating one of Northwestern Law's most popular events - Global Village. We could not accomplish all of our objectives without the enthusiastic support of the legal community, from students to professors to law firms. The Diversity Coalition thanks you all in advance for what is certainly going to be an exciting year!

    Thanks for supporting us,
