Following the success of the Northern Englishes Workshops held at Sheffield University, Lancaster University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Salford, the series continues on a biannual basis. 

We are delighted to announce that the 5th Northern Englishes Workshop (NEW 5) will be held at Nottingham Trent University from the afternoon of Monday 2nd April to lunchtime on Wednesday 4th April 2012.

The Workshop will adopt the format of previous sessions in combining open discussion with the presentation of research on the linguistic 'North'.

We are pleased to announce keynote talks from Professor Joan Beal (University of Sheffield) and Jonnie Robinson (British Library).

We are also delighted to announce that Deborah Skinner (Nottingham Trent University) will present on using spoken historical archives for linguistic research and we welcome papers based on a historical theme for this session.

The deadline for abstracts is 28th October 2011.


You can submit a paper on historical methodology, but papers are not limited to this topic and can cover other linguistic fields focused on a variety of Northern English.
