Why Ofsted inspection reports are essential for parents

Everyone wants the best for their child and when it comes to choosing childcare it is important to have as much information as possible. That's where Ofsted comes in. Ofsted inspection reports present a comprehensive and impartial picture and are published on their website. They inspect all state funded and some independent schools, as well as colleges and teacher training, childminders and day-care. They also are the lead inspectorate for reviews of key services for children and young people in each local authority area.

Inspection is a process of gathering evidence and coming to judgements in order to provide a written assessment of how well a childminder, for example, is performing. It is a legal requirement for all registered childcare providers, schools and colleges to be inspected.

For most childcare providers, inspections take place about every two or three years. Little or no advance notice is given, so settings can be seen as they really are.

For my last three OFSTED inspections I have been rated as outstanding.
