The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the only karate organisation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The WKF has developed common rules governing all styles of karate. The national WKF organisation in Australia is the Australian Karate Federation (AKF) and is the National Sporting Organisations (NSO) for karate as recognised by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Olympic Committee. The AKF in turn recognises the NSW Karate Federation as the representative of karate in the state. The NSW Karate Federation is the only karate body registered and recognised by the Ministry of Sport and Recreation in the state of NSW.
