BENGALI LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE:
25-26 November 2016
Venue- Jadavpur University
Adaptation is a very common feature in the course of the journey of a language . Adaptation is a vital condition for its dynamism. It
can be noted that the languages not only borrow linguistic elements from other
speaking communities but also as per the demand of modernity, a language adapt
different mediums to express itself (literally this adaptation is done by a community
to purposely express themselves). Scientific evolution is one such factor responsible behind
this conversion. In respect of writing mediums the human civilization have gone
through different phases like the cave wall stage, the rock wall stage, the terracotta
stage, the bronze /silver plate stage and so on. The invention of the papyrus was
the most important event in world history. This invention of the paper then triumphed
over all the other mediums. The realm of paper extended more or less 4000 years
from the 4th century BC. Currently the modern
civilization is standing on a crossroads albeit transition.
The Digital Revolution is a revolution in a true sense after
the Industrial Revolution. From the decade of ‘70s the changes has
started and as a result of this modern time has entered into the Information
Age. The language and literature’s sphere has been drastically changed due
of technological adaptation. The topographical barrier has abolished, and in
all respect the globalization has taken a perceptible shape.
Instead of treasure and power of a language’s
heredity it may be vulnerable due to disinterestedness of adaptation to the newer
technologies. All over the world every conscious language community is very
much active to go parallel with the new technology.
As a seventh largest language speaking
community, the Bengali language has very much potential. In accordance with the
technological up gradation many things are to do. However, it is fact that in
respect of the other languages Bengali has done a little. Very recently some
important initiatives are taken by different distinguished institutions.
Through this seminar we want to convey a
message to all sections of educational institutions especially to students and
researchers. We will invite the experts from all over the country who are
engaged in up grading language technology. We will invite experts from CDAC,
CIIL, ISI, IITs, Jadavpur University and from other relevant institutions. Not
only technical experts we will also invite all sections of scholars to put
their expectation and problem on the desk of conversation. Technical sessions will
be arranged to display the practical usages of different software programmes etcetera.
It is very much significant that the School of Languages and linguistics, Jadavpur has
agreed to collaborate with us. The expertise advice of such institution is the
booster to us.
An approximate audience of three hundred is
expected. Students, research scholars, faculty members from different colleges
and Universities and all those who are interested in Bengali language and literature
will be definitely enriched from this seminar. The new route of research may be
initiated through this dialogue.
