System Members

Our Family

At the current time, we consider our system to have 25 members.  22 of these are fronting systemmates with tasks and activities in our life outside of our head, and who vote on all major decisions.  We are like operating systems that run our brain in turn, each with our own full-fledged identities, preferences, activities, belief systems and worldviews, as well as mannerisms, talents, symbolism, and mental appearances. As far as gender, we have 8 female, 4 non-binary, and 10 male-identified people.  We range in age from 4 (Quille) to 35 (Aethros) to ageless (Susarin), with two age-sliding members.  There are a wide range of religious affiliations, including various types of Pagans, people who participate in spiritual practices without labeling themselves, agnostics, and atheists.  More specifics about these systemmates can be found on the survey pages linked from our pictures, below.

The remaining three positions are honorary rather than active.  They are:

The Body: Our body has memories, preferences, and a few features of identity, but no personality of its own.  In our system, it is more like a highly valued pet than a voting member of our inner government.  As its feelings do affect anyone who fronts, however, it can be said to influence the rest of the group.  Fronting these days involves blending into the body's essence in addition to taking control over its physical self.  Because of its growing presence in our mental life in addition to the importance of our body for all of us, it is an honorary system member.

Tawni and the Eala: For ages, we've had animal, land or plant-related entities who have come in and out of our headspace and/or sought out our contact from the environment around us.  We give them a shared space in our system tally.  In general, the  Eala think of themselves as coming from outside of our body, and fronting tends to be difficult for and/or not appealing to them.  Their impact on our life is more of a spiritually protective role rather than an active, participatory role.  Our spiritually-inclined members believe them to be the spirits of living and nonliving things in the environment, while our non-religious and atheistic members believe them to be a less active subset of headmates.  The specific Eala who are in contact are generally in constant flux, except for Tawni, a cougar spirit who is their official representative and almost always present.

The Lost Ones:  The last honorary membership belongs to five former systemmates who did not return from stasis and have been lost to integration.  Our headspaces contains monuments to each of them, but they no longer have sentience.  Part of our dealing with the grief of losing them is to memorialize them as a single honorary member.
