Nearly two years ago, the University of Portland Pamplin Business School and the North Portland Business Association formed a group entitled U of P and NPBA Business Round Table. The group exists to help small businesses survive and thrive. Every two months the group meets to discuss items that the small business owners see as issues to their survival and ability to thrive within the community.

The Round Table was formed to have appropriate conversations and produce problem-solving strategies that would enhance the possibilities that small businesses of the area might survive and even thrive. Members identify issues that they confront in their respective businesses that are obstacles to their business surviving and/or thriving. The University then locates and brings to the table individuals who oversee or impact the given areas (licensure, inventory management, etc.) and interaction occurs to attempt to find solutions to the identified problems.

Some previously discussed topics include:

- Small Business Resources Available
- Marketing to U of P Students, Staff and Parents
- Writing a Business Plan
- Merchandising
- Census Data Analysts
- Human Resource Topics
- Tax Laws and Accounting Systems
- Small Businesses and the Law
- The Economy and Impact on Small Business
- How to Receive Free Interns for Use in Your Business

"I find the Business Round Table meetings practical, relevant and extremely interesting. It is reassuring to know there are other businesses in my area going through the same ups and downs that I am experiencing."
- Dr. Dan Halko, North Portland Chiropractic Clinic

"A great way to connect with other business owners in order to share concerns, questions, and success strategies."
- Tracy Menasco, Trixie's Beauty Bar
