Indoor training takes place Sept - April. We train every Wednesday at Norwich City College on Ipswich Road NR2 2LJ.
Training starts at 8:00pm and finishes at 9.45pm. We welcome people of all abilities, from complete novice to international superstar. Our 3 main coaches rotate the training between them to give us varied and exciting training sessions.
The first 3 sessions are free so you've got nothing to lose. Just come along and have a bit of fun. We have plenty of friendly faces to make you feel part of the team from the moment you walk through the door.
From Sept 2011 we have also been running a shooting practice at the UEA. This is booked week to week by our secretary and announced at Wednesday's indoor training.
SERL & 1sts Coach
Neil Wakefield is back in the driving seat of Ice's coaching team. Neil is one of the founding members of the club and has been playing since he was 13 years old. He has played for Kwiek, UEA and was part of the British Student Team for 2 years. Along with Niall he coached the first team to win the NKA league for the first time. This season he is looking to retain the title. Neil is a level 2 qualified coach and also regularly referees in the local and regional leagues.
Rachel Payne started play korfball at UEA way back in 2002. She is one of the founding members of Ice and an active member of the committee. Rachel coached the 4th team for 3 years from its start to just one point away from winning the 3rd division. Rachel is a level 2 qualified coach. She is now working with Neil to develop the SERL squad through the second team.
Adam Knights has been coaching for Ice for 4 years. He has successfully helped the 2nd team stay up in the NKA Division 1 and has now taken on the challenge of building the 3rd team. He coached them to one point away of winning the 2nd division. The pressure will be on again next season with stiff competition. He started playing korfball with UEA in 2006. Adam is a level 2 qualified coach and regularly referees in the local league.
Jenna Slaughter has recently started coaching within the club. She played for UEA and has been at Ice since 2012. She will be building her skills to then take her level 2 coaching assessment this summer. The 4ths were set up in Sept 2011 with the aim of building up players new to the sport and allowing non-training members to enjoy casual games in NKA Div3. They started off without a full team but quickly built up with new players to a squad who won their first match in Jan 2012. In 2014 they were only 1 point away from winning division 3.
Niall Sully has recently taken on the role of Head Coach in Ice. Last season he successfully help Ice stay in NKA Division 2 during a year of changes within the club structure. He started playing for Birmingham University and joined Ice after a short time at Norwich City when he moved back to Norwich. Niall is a level 2 qualified coach.
Where We Practice
How to get there!
By car: The college is located on the Ipswich Road approximately 1/2 mile from the city centre. From the St Stephen's Street roundabout (near the bus station), follow the signs to Ipswich. A few hundred meters south of the roundabout the A11 and A140 divide, take the left fork and the College is about 300 metres further along on the left.
By Bus: There are many different buses that stop on Ipswich road. You can use www.travelineeastanglia.org.uk to work out which is best for you.
What will you need?
Pretty much all you'll need is yourself. Korfball should involve a tiny bit of running around so bring your best plimsoles and PE vest!
