NW vs. GREENHAWKS - FUNDRAISER EVENTWe have an exciting event this Wednesday, December 11th that I’m sure your child would enjoy. Our NW Boys Varsity Basketball team will play an exhibition match against the Washington DC Greenhawks, a professional basketball team filled with a roster full of notable entertaining street ball basketball players, including White Chocolate, Pat the Roc, Airborne and Superfly. NAVY TEAM CAMPThe Northwest Boys Basketball team attended the annual Navy Basketball Team Camp in Annapolis, MD from June 14-16th. The boys finished the team camp with a 2-3 record. The unique opportunity was a great chance for the boys to further develop team chemistry and experience a taste of college life. *Special Thanks to Ms. Gaines and Mr. Frankel for helping out!

Elliot Gambrell set to play at Frostburg UniversitySenior Guard and Northwest High School's leading scorer from the 2012-13 season, Elliot Gambrell has committed to play at Frostburg State University. Elliot was also selected to play in Montgomery County's Senior All Star Game this past season. Elliot joins Jacoy Gillum ('12) and Myles Pettereti ('10) as current NW Basketball alumni that are currently playing college basketball.

The Northwest High School Boys Basketball teams welcomed former NBA all-star
Buck Williams on Friday, February 1st as a guest speaker.
Buck Williams is a University of Maryland graduate and former NBA player who
played professionally for the New Jersey Nets, Portland Trailblazers and New
York Knicks. Williams ranks 13th all-time in NBA career rebounds. His
17-year NBA career was highlighted by three All-Star Game appearances,
a Rookie of the Year award, an All-Rookie
team selection, an All-NBA second team selection and four selections to the
first and second NBA All-Defensive teams.

PEP RALLY @ KINGSVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOLThe NW Boys and Girls Basketball teams along with POMS and Cheerleaders conducted a Winter Sports Pep Rally at Kingsview Middle School on January 18th. The purpose of the annual Pep Rally was to promote the Athletic Programs at Northwest High School. The Pep Rally opened with remarks from Anne Rossiter, Northwest High School's Athletic Director and included performances from both the POMS and Cheerleaders. The Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Coaches spoke breifly about the importance of character and academics as student-athletes. The Pep Rally concluded with a game of knockout with members of the Kingsview Boys and Girls Basketball Teams. Several of the Kingsview alumni were introduced by their coaches.

JAGS FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS Members of the NW Boys JV and Varsity Basketball teams held a fundraiser at Jersey Mikes on Saturday, January 12th. The boys took turns handing out flyers in the Kentlands shopping center in an attempt to attract customers to the NW Basketball Bake Sale. Baked goods were donated by NW basketball parents. Special thanks to Patti Gaines for organizing and coordinating the event with Jersey Mikes.

MATSUNAGA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PEP RALLY The NW Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams travelled to nearby Spark Matsunaga Elementary School to conduct a Pep Rally. The purpose of the feeder school pep rally is to promote the respective winter sports programs and build a sense of school pride in the community. The Pep Rally was highlighted by the dunk off and knockout game played with 5th grade Matsunaga students. The Boys and Girls Basketball players gave out t-shirts and gifts to the attendees. **Special thanks to Jamal Jones of Modell's Sporting Goods for providing the gifts!
