What to Do on Race Day Schedule for Events

2015

NJRS races are held at different venues each week on Sundays in January, February and early March.  Regardless of the venue, the format for each race day is basically the same.

Athletes and parents should work together to meet these goals. Please read this periodically as items may added or altered.

1.  Race Registration
  • New this year: Racers can register online up until 12:00pm the Friday before each race. Visit the link on our home page to register for the next race. If you register online, you still MUST check in the morning of the race. No check in, no race.
  • Athletes can register between 9:00 am and 10:15 am.  If you are not registered, you may not be able to race that day.  You may or may not be given any provisional status either. This means you may or may not get to race.  Don’t forget to register. Athletes ask your parents if they registered you, parents ask your athlete, don't assume. This situation happens as you may guess every year to some racer or another.
  • Arrive at the hill with enough time to register, dress, and take a free run.
  • Check with your coach, or the coach who is at the top of the race course or training course.

2. Training Course
  • Athletes should take a few runs on the training course (please, we expect you to inspect the training course first).
  • Training course can be used before and after inspection of the race course, until the race starts.
  • Be safe on training course. Make sure there is plenty of space between skiers so you aren't interfered with by someone below you inspecting the course, etc.

3.  1st Course Inspection
  • Course inspection opens no later than 10:00 am.
  • Please meet the coach at the top of the course by 10:00 am.
  • Inspection should be done as a group.
  • If you arrive after the group has left, please wait at the top for a coach to return.
  • Please do not inspect the course without a coach.
  • Athletes can take free or training runs (on training course) as time permits before the start of the race.

4.  1st Race Start Time
  • 1st race runs begin at 11:00 am. Youngest ages normally start first and work up by age, but at times orders may change, make sure you know the order.
  • Athletes should focus on staying warm and limber while waiting for their start.
  • Be on time, if you are not at the start when it is your turn, you may be skipped and/or you may have to run last.
  • After a race run, athletes should warm up and get a snack and cheer on teammates.

5.  2nd Course Inspection
  • 2nd course inspection opens at 1:00 pm.
  • Please meet coach at top of race course by 1:00 pm.
  • Inspection should be done as a group with your coach.
  • If you arrive after the group has left, please wait at the top for a coach to return.
  • Please do not inspect the course without a coach.

6.  2nd Race Start Time
  • The 2nd run begins at 1:45pm. Youngest ages start first and work up by age, but at times orders may change, make sure you know the order.
  • Athletes should focus on staying warm and limber while waiting for their start.
  • Be on time, if you are not at the start when it is your turn, you may be skipped and/or you may have to run last.
  • After a race run, athletes should warm up and get a snack and cheer on teammates.

7.  Awards
  • Awards will take place as soon as possible after the completion of the race.
  • While waiting for the awards ceremony to begin, athletes should:
    • Gather your ski equipment.
    • Take off boots and other gear.
    • Get dressed and help carry gear to the car.
    • Attend the awards ceremony and cheer on teammates and other athletes.

8.  Other Things to Remember
  • Eat well and get plenty of rest the night before a race.
  • Keep your ski equipment waxed and tuned.  Ask for help if you need help accomplishing waxing and tuning and/or watch the videos. Click the links in the navigation bar on the upper left side of your screen to watch the videos.
  • DO NOT SKI in race course before the race starts.  You must side slip or snow plow only.  Do not touch any gates, even slightly.  Do not ski at speed alongside the course attempting to mirror the course.  This can get you disqualified for a race run or even the entire race.
  • If you are not sure on rules for NJRS races check with your coach. Remember, you are expected to know the rules.
  • Drink plenty of water while skiing, racing and playing outdoors.  Remember it is very dry in winter and you can dehydrated even if you are not sweating in winter.
  • Stay active on days that you don’t ski.  Free-ski extra days if you get the chance with parents or friends.
  • If you have questions talk to your coach.
9. Be on time
  • Operate on Vince Lombardi time, if you're not early, you're late!
