Please note: While we will hold FIVE races prior to the Championships, racers must only race in three races to qualify for an award at the Championships in 2017.
While USSA has implemented changes to the helmet rules for athletes ages 13 and up, we will NOT be making those changes at this time and will revisit the our helmet policy next year or the year after. Our current helmet/chin guard policy is as follows:
Helmets: All racers are required to wear a helmet for NJRS races. Helmets with hard ears (race helmets) are recommended but not required. GoPros/Helmet Cams will not be permitted on any NJRS race course.
Slalom Equipment: Chin guards are optional. NJRS wants to make ski racing accessible to as many skiers as possible and at this time does not require helmet chin guards for slalom racing since many of the racers will not be hitting a lot of gates. NJRS does recommend chin guards be worn if the racer has one or progresses to a skill level where they are consistently hitting gates during slalom runs. We recommend keeping tools in your bag to remove your chin guard since some require allen keys and other require a screw driver to remove the chin guard as chin guards should NOT be worn during any events other than SL race runs. NJRS STRONGLY RECOMMENDS that slalom chin guards are removed for GS. Chin guards can increase chance of injury or increase severity of injury during GS racing due to higher skier speeds. At higher levels of racing (not NJRS) chin bars are generally allowed only in slalom or kombi events, i.e. USSA and FIS sanctioned racing. For your racer's safety we would appreciate your cooperation.
BIBS - Please remember to use the same bib throughout the season. This makes calculating qualifiers for the NJRS Championships much easier. If you have any questions, please email us at email@example.com
Local Weather Information
Local weather for the next race will be posted here during the race season. In cases of bitterly cold weather or other weather-related events, we will post alerts no later than 12:00 pm Saturday and announce any final race day changes or cancellations here and on facebook by 4:00 pm Saturday. The final decision will be made by the host ski hill/club and NJRS coordinators.FAQ section for details on how to participate in NJRS races.) Participating NJRS clubs:
Each race consists of two race runs, usually Giant Slalom. Slalom was added in 2009 at select races for racers ages 8 and up. Kids under 8 years old will still race Giant Slalom only. Times for each run are added together to determine the racers' standings within their age groups. There are both boys and girls groups for the following ages: (5 & Under) (6-7) (8-9) (10-11) (12-13) (14-15) (16+). Awards will be given to the top finishers in each group. Race Registration 9:00 am-10:15 am (**Need to close registration at 10:15 to begin race on time) SOME RACES MAY START EARLIER THIS YEAR THE RACE INFORMATION FROM COACHES WILL HAVE THESE UPDATES.
Training Course 9:30 am- (Approximately and if available)
1st Course Inspection 10:00 am - 10:45am
1st Race Run 7 & under 11:00 am - Youngest run first. All 7 & under racers return immediately to the top of the hill for their second run on the same course. 7 & under racers will not race on the second course in the afternoon
1st Race Run 8 & up 11:30 (Approximately)
2nd Course Inspection 1:00 pm- 1:30pm (Approximately)
2nd Race Run 8 & up 1:45 pm (Approximately)
Awards Soon after race completion ~4pm
