What Is This Website For?

Changes to Picasa Photo Albums

Google have retired Picasa Photo Albums.

The photos which used to be visible in the Picasa albums will continue to be available to view in the Album Archive 1 and Album Archive 2. The format and appearance of the Album Archive looks different to Picasa, but it remains a single page showing thumbnail cover images for each of the available albums, and you can still download single images or complete albums from the archive (see downloading instructions below). Frustratingly, they are no longer arranged in descending chronological order, but are instead apparently sorted randomly. This may mean that you have to spend some time searching through the albums to find the particular one you want.

Having axed Picasa, Google made the decision to continue to develop its own latest photo application, 'Google Photos'. All the images that were formerly visible in Picasa are now visible in Google Photos; however, the retirement of Picasa gives rise to the issue that the more recent albums are now stored in Google Photos, and will not be visible in the Album Archive. Unlike Picasa Galleries (and Album Archive), Google Photos is a system of photo-sharing that requires membership of the Google+ network. Google Photos consequently does not feature an index page that is public on the web. I can appreciate that not everyone wants to sign-up for a Google account, but this has created the problem of how to continue to allow free access to all the Car Trial photos.

Fortunately, the albums can be shared by distributing a link. So the idea behind this website is to provide links to all of the albums on Google Photos. So now that Picasa has become obsolete, I should be able to continue to offer access to everyone, irrespective of whether they have a Google account or not. Click on the menu links above to go to the low resolution albums, or the high resolution albums (see below for explanation of the difference between high and low resolution).

So What Can You Do with This Website?

View all the photos taken by Glenn Bennett whilst spectating at Northern Phoenix Trial Car Club events. This is best done using the low resolution albums - the low resolution images look OK on phone, tablet or computer screen, they load quickly onto the screen, but will not make good quality prints.

Download low resolution copies of the pictures you want: perhaps to use in e-mails, or perhaps to use on the web.

Download high resolution copies of the images you want, to make prints yourself. High resolution images have a much larger file size, so are considerably slower to download. They are, however, necessary if you wish to make good quality enlarged prints. Once you have downloaded the image file, there are online services from which you can also order prints.

I am willing for all of the images to be used for personal, non-commercial purposes. If appropriate, I would appreciate a photo credit, particularly if the images are used online, in which case I would like a link to this website. I am open to requests for commercial use: please contact me with any enquiries. If you experience any difficulties using this site, please send me an e-mail: bennonlmp@googlemail.com and I will do my best to sort it out.
