Final Ski Club Trip - 2/6/15

posted Feb 5, 2015, 4:34 PM by North Bethesda Ski Club

Fifth & Final Ski Club Trip This Friday, February 6, 2015!

Ski Club is on for Friday night!  Hard to believe that 5 weeks went by so quickly.  Some will ask, why not another trip?  Well, the cost per trip is about $4,500 for buses.  We would need to charge each student more, and parent volunteers would need to leave work early for a sixth Friday. Plus, this year we've been lucky.  Not one Friday has been cancelled for school closings or extreme weather.

Wear an extra layer - sweater, sweatshirt, parka - as it will be colder than usual, especially after 8pm.  If you have one, pack a bandana or face mask, as that helps with wind.  And double check the bag for gloves - impossible to ski without them.

If you have any questions, please e-mail nbskiclub@gmail.com. We will try to answer within 24 hours.
So What Can I Do With This Night Club Card?

Your student's Night Club Card is valid every night for the remainder of the winter.  Monday through Saturday 4pm-10pm, and Sunday 3pm-10pm.  Valid at Liberty, Roundtop, and Whitetail until they close for the season.

Some kids get a group of 2-10 together, arrange for a ride with parents, and ski/board the night away.  Parents either go ski/board too, or enjoy a book or computer time in the lodge next to the fireplace, while the kids are on the mountain.
Chaperones & Junior Chaperones

NBMS Parents and WJ upper-classmen will be serving as chaperones on the trip.  Responsibilities for chaperones and students are clearly outlined in the information packet.  Your student is responsible for his/her behavior and safety.  Chaperones serve as guides, not supervisors, throughout the trip - especially once at Liberty Mountain.  Please have a discussion with your child about smart decision-making, for everyone's sake.  Safety is our #1 priority - make sure it's your child's as well.  Thanks!

Ski Club Trip - 1/30/15

Fourth Ski Club Trip This Friday, January 30, 2015!

Ski Club is on for Friday night!  The snow is fantastic, so the kids will get a great skiing and boarding experience.  But...

Friday Morning Drop-Off Safety Reminders

Please remember to drive slowly and be patient as you drop-off equipment at the Ski Pod.  Follow the traffic pattern in the tennis court lot, immediately turning right and going around the light poles in a counter clockwise fashion.  Do not drive straight at the POD, even if no other cars are in the lot.  Thanks!

Please make sure your students name and phone number is on every piece of baggage.  We or Liberty can't easily return it to you otherwise.
Science Olympiad Kids (and others not riding bus home)

Each student who is not riding the NBMS bus home must bring a signed note to give to the Lead Chaperone on their bus.  An e-mail to us is not sufficient.

Thanks!

Third Ski Club Trip This Friday, January 23, 2015!

posted Jan 21, 2015, 5:52 PM by North Bethesda Ski Club

Snow is expected Friday night into the day Saturday up at Liberty Mountain, making skiing and boarding even better!  So, expect Ski Club to be on as planned unless roads to the north of Montgomery County are deemed impassable or dangerous. In the unlikely event that ski club is cancelled, we will send out an e-mail, post it atwww.nbms-pto.org, and make announcements at school.

If you have any questions not covered in the packet or this e-mail, please e-mailnbskiclub@gmail.com. We will try to answer within 24 hours.
Friday Drop-Off Ends at 8am Sharp

Friday morning between 7:15am - 8:00am in the lower parking lot by the tennis courts, we will be accepting bags and ski equipment for storage.

Please make sure your students name and phone number is on every piece of baggage.  Also, please be considerate of non ski club drivers by not blocking the entrance to the school, nor using the main drop off area for ski club.

If school opens 2 hours late, morning equipment drop off is 9:15am-10:00am.
Skiing/Boarding While Snowing...

A water resistant/water proof outer layer is a must when it is snowing.  Plus good ski gloves and, of course, a helmet.

Don't forget to pack food/drinks for the bus, and send money/food for dinner.

Want your student to take lessons?  They are at 5:45pm and 7:00pm.   Make a deal that they earn some privilege by showing you their punched ticket, which proves they took a lesson at Liberty Mountain.

Thanks!

Second Ski Club Trip - 1/16/15

Second Ski Club Trip This Friday, January 16, 2015!

Yes!  We are going skiing this Friday.  If you have any questions not covered in the packet or this e-mail, please e-mail nbskiclub@gmail.com. We will try to answer within 24 hours.
Friday Morning Equipment Drop-Off

Friday morning between 7:15am - 8:00am in the lower parking lot by the tennis courts, we will be accepting bags and ski equipment for storage.  Any bag NOT tagged last week must be tagged this week.

It will go so much faster because of tagged bags.  Please be considerate of non ski club drivers by not blocking the entrance to the school, nor using the main drop off area for ski club.  Go all the way to the tennis court parking lot.

If school opens 2 hours late, morning equipment drop off is 9:15-10.
Being Ready to Ski/Board this Friday...

Temperatures are predicted to be in the 20's in Carroll Valley, PA (home to Liberty Mountain).  Be sure to have your student bring appropriate cold-weather gear for those temps!  It is always colder there than in Bethesda, so don't let the temps here fool you.  Some suggestions:
  • Appropriate winter/ski clothing - including helmet, coat, gloves, ski goggles, and face mask or bandana.  (Cold weather skiing is better when covering your face).
  • A plan for before-school drop-off of equipment/bags.
  • A plan for after-school food/drink.
  • A plan for dinner money while skiing.  Click here to learn about loading money on your student's Night Club Card.
  • A parent-student conversation about decision-making.  (See pg.4 of info pkt.)
  • A plan to pick-up your student at 11:00-11:05pm Friday night.
  • Hopefully not necessary, but your availability to drive up to Liberty or a hospital in case of medical emergency so that you can drive your student home.

As a reminder, if schools are closed or close early, no ski club.

Lessons are Awesome!

If your student's Night Club Card comes with Lessons, they are at 5:45pm or 7:00pm. Instructors will be punching their lift tickets with the Liberty Mountain logo to prove they took a lesson.  This allows you to have proof if you need it with the punched ticket.  We highly encourage lessons, especially for beginners.  Perhaps you can create an incentive for your child to take lessons?
Chaperones & Junior Chaperones

NBMS Parents and WJ upper-classmen will be serving as chaperones on the trip.  Responsibilities for chaperones and students are clearly outlined in the information packet.  Your student is responsible for his/her behavior and safety.  Chaperones serve as guides, not supervisors, throughout the trip - especially once at Liberty Mountain.  Please have a discussion with your child about smart decision-making, for everyone's sake.  Safety is our #1 priority - make sure it's your child's as well.  Thanks!
Still Need Your Night Club Card or Helmet?

If your student did not pick up his/her or a family member's Night Club Card or helmet, we will have them at afternoon loading on 1/16/15.  Please have them go to their bus and ask the lead chaperone on that bus for the card/helmet.

First Ski Club Trip This Friday, January 9, 2015!

Welcome to ski season!  Please re-read the Ski Club Information Packet (click here to download) to answer most, if not all of your questions.  This e-mail provides some reminders, but does not cover everything.  If you have a question not covered in the packet, please e-mail nbskiclub@gmail.com. We will try to answer within 24 hours.
What's Up with Bus Assignments?

Bus assignments are posted outside the NBMS cafeteria.  We will not be posting them online or e-mailing them out to protect student names.  If not already known, please have your student get their bus number this week.  We will also have them at Morning Equipment Drop-Off and Afternoon Bus Loading.  Sorry, no changes.
The Skinny on Friday Morning Equipment Drop-Off

All bags dropped off on Friday morning will be tagged with a colored tag before being put into the storage POD.  When you hand your bags to the volunteer, clearly state the bus number and color.  The bag will be tagged for the season, allowing us to more quickly load/unload in future weeks.

6th Grade Parents with Kids at Outdoor Ed Right Now - PLEASE READ

Those of you with 6th graders at Outdoor Education right now,  you are responsible for your child between the time MCPS drops off your student at NBMS and the start of Ski Club.  Neither the PTO nor NBMS has arranged for any supervision or care during that ~1.5 hours.  One suggestion is to bring your student home for a quick shower and meal, then back to NBMS for Ski Club by 2:45pm, refreshed and ready for a great night in the snow.
