Governor PERRY and Gert Wilders
(This foto was taken November 15, DHFC Restoration weekend).

Dear friends,
Yesterday there was a debate in Dutch parliament about, among others, integration of minorities. Dutch MP De Graaf spoke on behalf of the Party for Freedom. He held a lengthy talk about why islam is threatening our society, including our so dearly held freedom of religion. He concluded with stating that all mosques in The Netherlands should be shut down. Other parliamentarians reacted with shock. Later, Geert Wilders confirmed the new position of his party.

Hamas Resumes Trials of Homemade Rockets

Hamas launched four rockets towards the sea in less than 24 hours, the IDF said Thursday morning, noting the launches were part of the Gazan terror group's testing and development of its artillery capabilities. Two of the rockets were launched Wednesday afternoon, one was fired at night, and the last launch occurred Thursday morning. The IDF, which had so far avoided officially addressing the rocket trials, published a response on its English Twitter page this morning. According to Palestinian sources, at least 14 rockets were launched in recent weeks, with the tests ongoing for nearly two months.

Fear of Deadly ‘Religious War’ Raised After Synagogue Attack

Israelis and Palestinians expressed fear Wednesday that their decades-old conflict was moving beyond the traditional nationalist struggle between two peoples fighting for their homelands and spiraling into a raw and far-reaching religious confrontation between Jews and Muslims. The threat — perhaps more accurately the dread — of an incipient but deadly “religious war” was expressed by Muslim clerics, Christian leaders and Jewish Israelis one day after a pair of Palestinian assailants, wielding meat cleavers and a gun, killed five Israelis, including a prominent American Israeli rabbi, in a Jerusalem synagogue.

Israel and Palestinians Coordinate Response over Ebola Threat

With global concerns growing over the spread of Ebola, Israeli and Palestinian Authority (PA) officials met over the weekend to help coordinate a regional response to tackle the threat. Israel also announced more stringent border screening for those travelling from West Africa. On Saturday night, Israeli officials reportedly including Gen. Yoav Mordechai, Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), and Prof Alex Leventhal from the Health Ministry met with Palestinian counterparts. They decided that Israeli medics will help train Palestinian and Jordanian teams to fight the virus. Last week, Israel decided to send medical teams to West Africa to join the international effort against the deadly disease.

1973 again? France to Host Palestinian Unity Government,  looks like Vietnam?

"The French government intends to hold a joint meeting with the Palestinian unity government in Paris at the beginning of 2015, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has announced, and he called for the international community to take a more active role in restarting peace talks with Israel.  Fabius agreed on the meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel Radio reported on Monday. The top French diplomat said that the international community should be involved in future negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel, and that the community should chaperone the talks in order to ensure positive results."

Comments:  "I cannot help but see a dejia-vu from the 1973 so-called peace accord that witnessed the ABDICATION of the USA to the Communists in Vietnam and in the western media.

And you have probably seen this one: Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second?

It is Iraq !
However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible.
The names used in the Bible are Babylon , Land of Shinar , and Mesopotamia ... The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris And Euphrates Rivers
The name Iraq means country with deep roots.
Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.
No other nation, except Israel , has more history and prophecy associated
With it than Iraq ..

And also, this is something to think about:

Since America is Typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages ...

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)
Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle.. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah;
And there was peace.

Netanyahu  Meets with Indian PM Modi, Calls to Bolster Ties

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York late Sunday to discuss nuclear developments in Iran and expanding bilateral ties between Jerusalem and Delhi. The meeting was the first between the Israeli and Indian premiers in over a decade, according to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. Both men are in New York for the United Nations General Assembly gathering of world leaders. “Prime Minister Netanyahu raised the issue of the danger of a nuclear-armed Iran as well as the global threat posed by Islamic terrorism,” the PMO said in a statement released Monday Israel time.

E-BOLA  now on its way to Asia.
About a year ago a friend of mine had a very lucid dream, in it he received a strange message: "We are trying to prevent a big disaster to take place in South Asia in 2015, but it is hard to stop."
Now we are witnessing the beginning of the explosion that will blast the E-Bola virus in Asia.
Vietnamese news agencies reported several cases of E-bola, but the news were quickly cut off and just a few sites remain active. Here is one of them:
Here some parts.
"Vietnam may send suspected samples to the US for Ebola testing

VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam is not eligible for bio-security to test Ebola so the country may send samples of suspected cases to the US, said Professor Nguyen Tran Hien, director of the Central Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology.

According to the announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO), the risk of Ebola virus transmission from person to person across borders is high for the countries bordering the Ebola-hit countries in Africa such as Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. However, the risk is average for other countries in Africa and low for other continents.

Professor Hien said that the risk of Ebola entering Vietnam is low because the transmission mechanism of Ebola is direct contact with blood, secretions, and body fluids of patients or infected animals.

"The virus is not transmitted through the respiratory or gastrointestinal system (unless eating uncooked infected meat). Only patients with symptoms are contagious. However, male patients after recovery can carry the virus in semen for seven weeks," Professor Hien said.

Technically, Prof. Hien said that Vietnam can afford to diagnose Ebola virus but does not have sufficient equipment for biosafety to perform Ebola test in Vietnam. On August 8, the WHO declared a global state of emergency for Ebola epidemic.

On August 13 the Ministry of Health will train staff of hospitals in the northern region on the prevention and treatment of Ebola. A similar course will be held in HCM City for hospitals in the southern region on August 15. U.S. CDC Supports Vietnam’s Emergency Operations Center. In response to the WHO determination of an international emergency regarding the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the Ministry of Health activated their emergency operations center (EOC) for a preparedness response with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) and WHO. U.S. CDC has provided technical and financial support to strengthen the EOC to better prepare for public health emergencies and prevent diseases from spreading in Vietnam, the region, and the world.

As part of the U.S. Global Health Security Agenda launched in February 2014, and in partnership with Vietnam, U.S. CDC has provided training and support to government leaders and public health workers to better respond in case of a disease outbreak emergency, including upgrading laboratory equipment and information systems to detect outbreaks faster.

Last year, Vietnam participated in a 6-month Global Health Security demonstration project with the U.S. CDC, WHO, the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and USAID to enhance its capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks.

Noi Bai airport quarantine intensified amid growing Ebola virus concern

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long on August 11 inspected the health quarantine work at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, a major gateway of northern Vietnam to the world, as the Ebola virus disease is raging through West Africa.

Long said the disease situation is getting complicated with growing numbers of the infected and dead and likely to enter Vietnam.

Even in Europe, now, the authorities are admitting that they grossly under-estimated the E-BOLA cases and danger.
Clearly all cases of E-bola infection and death are derived from an African or a Middle-Eastern hosts and carriers.

Now, too little too late, even Obama calls the Presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leon, in West Africa (and who knows who else),  in order to try to stop the pandemic.
"(Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama spoke about the Ebola virus outbreak with the presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone on Thursday, the White House said."

From Wikipedia:
Medications: Favipiravir looks like it may be useful in a mouse model of the disease.[9] Estrogen receptor drugs used to treat infertility and breast cancer (clomiphene and toremifene) inhibit the progress of Ebola virus in infected mice.[135] Ninety percent of the mice treated with clomiphene and fifty percent of those treated with toremifene survived the tests.[135] Given their oral availability and history of human use, these drugs would be candidates for treating Ebola virus infection in remote geographical locations, either on their own or together with other antiviral drugs.
Antibodies: Main article: 2014 West Africa Ebola virus outbreak § Treatment
Researchers looking at slides of cultures of cells that make monoclonal antibodies. These are grown in a lab and the researchers are analyzing the products to select the most promising of them.
During an outbreak 1999 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, seven of eight people who received blood transfusions from individuals who had previously survived the infection survived themselves.[136] However, this potential treatment is considered controversial.[137] Intravenous antibodies appear to be protective in non-human primates who have been exposed to large doses of Ebola.[138]
Use of untested experimental drugs: On 31 July 2014, an experimental drug, ZMapp, was first tested on humans. It was administered to two Americans who had been infected with Ebola. Both people appeared to have had positive results.[139][140] Soon thereafter ZMapp was administered to a third Ebola patient, a 75 year old priest, who nonetheless died.[141]
On 12 August the WHO released an advisory statement regarding the ongoing Ebola outbreak, recommending specifically for the more widespread use of the compassionate use exemption for experimental drugs, in efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak, with the aim of more quickly halting and eliminating the current Ebola outbreak.[142]
Other treatments: Other promising treatments rely on antisense technology. Both small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomers (PMOs) targeting the Zaire Ebola virus (ZEBOV) RNA polymerase L protein could prevent disease in nonhuman primates.[143][144] TKM-Ebola is a small-interfering RNA compound, currently tested in a phase I clinical trial in people.[145][87]

Maj. Gen. Michael Carey relieved from command of U.S. 20th Air Force

Posted on October 14, 2013: an old article but with recent consequences.
All military men and women who could reveal embarrassing events tied to Obama or Hillary Clinton are being purged.

Maj. Gen. Michael J. CareyUSAF Major General Michael J. Carey

The U.S. Air Force reports (courtesy Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs) that on Oct. 11, 2013, Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, relieved Maj. Gen. Michael Carey from command of 20th Air Force due to a loss of trust and confidence in his leadership and judgment:

"Kowalski made his decision based on information from an Inspector General investigation into Carey’s behavior during a temporary duty assignment. The allegations are not related to operational readiness or the inspection results of any 20th AF unit, nor do they involve sexual misconduct.

“20th AF continues to execute its mission of around-the-clock nuclear deterrence in a safe, secure and effective manner,’ Kowalski said. ‘It’s unfortunate that I’ve had to relieve an officer who’s had an otherwise distinctive career spanning 35 years of commendable service.”

AFGSC vice commander Maj. Gen. Jack Weinstein has been named the interim 20th AF commander.

Headquartered at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., 20th AF is responsible for the nation’s three intercontinental ballistic missile wings. It has dual responsibilities to AFGSC and U.S. Strategic Command. As the missile Numbered Air Force for AFGSC, 20th AF maintains and operates the nation’s ICBM force. Designated as STRATCOM’s Task Force 214, the command provides on-alert, combat ready ICBMs to the President.

Maj. Gen. Jack WeinsteinMaj. Gen. Jack Weinstein

In the three months after the 9/11 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya (which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stephens), five senior U.S. military officers were purged:

  • Gen. Carter Ham, on October 18.
  • Adm. Charles Gaouette, on October 27.
  • Gen. David Petraeus, on November 9.
  • Gen. John Allen, on November 13.
  • Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis on December 6.

Ostensibly, Petraeus’ “retirement” and Allen’s suspended promotion were due to both men’s moral conduct. But surely we are not so naive as to think that Petraeus and Allen, respectively, are the only U.S. military officers who’ve ever committed adultery or written flirtatious email. As for Ham’s “retirement” and Gaouette’s “temporary re-assignment” (reassignment to what?), there is not even a whisper that either man’s morals or personal conduct is at issue.

The dismissal of Gen. James Mattis is equally, if not more, suspicious. Having served in the U.S. military for 40 years and widely revered by rank-and-file Marines for his blunt talk and leadership, Mattis was the head of the most important command of the entire U.S. military — that of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). But the good general was told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned.

Writing for Foreign Policy on Jan. 18, 2013, self-described “fan of President Obama” Thomas E. Ricks claims that the “word on the national security street is that General James Mattis was being given the bum’s rush out of his job as commander of Central Command” because he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way” on the Obama regime’s policy toward Iran.

Ex-CIA agent, philanthropist Dr. Jim Garrow, claims (on Alex Jones’ radio, Glenn Beck, and several other Internet mediums) that Obama is purging the U.S. military’s top brass via a “litmus test” of sorts. High-ranking military officials are asked “Would you fire on an American citizen?”. Garrow claims that those who answered “no” would be fired. Garrow also claims that Obama had Andrew Breitbart and Tom Clancy assassinated,

Dr. Garrow is the founder and executive director of The Bethune Institute, a charitable organization dedicated to advance education in China via teaching English, giving free books to poor Chinese, and medical scholarships. Through its branch organization, The Pink Pagoda, the institute also rescues baby girls from infanticide  in China, and finds homes for the unwanted girls. Dr. Garrow is credited for saving the lives of over 50,000 Chinese girls for which he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In March of this year, the U.S. Army issued an order forbidding soldiers from criticizing Obama. Our soldiers are also forbidden from criticizing Islam and Muslims.

Glenn Beck: 'Liberals, You Were Right' About Iraq War

There are many things you'd never expect Glenn Beck to say, but:  "liberals, you were right" tops them all.  And yet.....

NOT REALLY....  the US should have gone into Iraq, but after getting out Saddam they should have DIVIDED the country into FOUR smaller NATIONS, following ethnic and religious lines: Kurds, Shiites, Arabs, and Sunni.  If we did, like we did in former Yugoslavia, we would not have had any more problems.   Personally I feel vindicated.  You can read my August 2003 article at: https://sites.google.com/site/northatlanticleague/hot-news-1?offset=10

Israel: Syrian WMD Compromise could serve as template for Iran

Syria’s readiness to consider relinquishing its stockpiles of chemical weapons in hopes of evading punitive strikes by the US military should serve as a template for the international community’s strategy in confronting a nuclear-driven Iran, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday. Officials in Jerusalem told Israel Radio on Tuesday that while they were skeptical of Syria’s willingness to hand over its chemical weapons stockpile in hopes of warding off a US military assault, the very proposal is proof that a real, credible military threat “gets the job done.” “This is explicitly a message to the masters in Iran,” said one Israeli official.

TEA PARTY being attacked    (from an October 2011 article)
That's the beginning of the 2014 election.
Dear friends,   We received this letter from our friends at Tea Party net, and we hope you can pass it on. The attacks to the Tea Party movement are getting harder and meaner. There is a clear will and an organized strategy to paint the Tea Party groups as renegades and fools, obviously it seems that the 2014 election is going to be ever harder that any other in the past. I believe that people like Maddow should be dealt with the same medicine they try to use on their adversaries. It is not enough to act surprised and try to defend, after their attacks, we need to go on the offensive. We need to DIG INFORMATION on the entities that sponsor them, a little bit like Glenn Beck used to do at Fox. Then let us use our combined social networks to spread the truth about the low lives she (and others like her) associate with. DIS-INFORMATION has been the Nazi (they called propaganda) and the marxists (including today's high level executives and even some political leaders) primary tool for brain-washing a tired, oppressed and often lazy population. We need to continue to spread the truth, but that means also to dig deep and EXPOSE the sins, the dirty deals, the rotten relationships between the mad dogs and the puppet masters (the un-named high level folks like Soros and friends) that use them to destroy all that is left of righteousness, moral, ethical, good, and God-fearing in our people.
Keep up the good work, God bless, sincerely

A 38 North exclusive with analysis by Jeffrey Lewis and Nick Hansen

According to new commercial satellite imagery, North Korea is nearing completion of an experimental light water reactor (ELWR) that is primarily intended to generate electricity for civilian purposes. The North now appears to be putting the finishing external touches on the reactor and may be completing work inside the building as well. The key factor determining whether Pyongyang can then move on to the start-up period within the next few months--which precedes regular operation of the reactor--is the availability of reactor fuel. Pyongyang unveiled a uranium enrichment plant nearby in 2010 and experts believe that, if the facility has been operating over the past few years, it may have produced sufficient low-enriched uranium that can be used to power the ELWR for several years. However, it remains unclear to what capacity the facility has been operating. Also unclear is whether the North has mastered the technology for producing the fuel assemblies necessary to power the reactor.

If the North has fuel on hand it will then need to conduct a number of activities during the start-up period which normally takes 9-12 months for commercial power reactors before moving to a full power test and the facility becomes operational. Before loading the nuclear fuel, extensive verification and validation steps will need to be taken to assure the design, manufacture, assembly of nuclear components and construction meet whatever requirements the North Koreans have set for the safe and successful operation of the reactor. But it is worth noting that since Iran has suffered repeated setbacks in operating its own light water reactor, North Korea may have similar troubles. If the start-up period proceeds smoothly, the ELWR could become fully operational during the first half of 2014.

Because North Korea lacks experience in designing, engineering, manufacturing and operating light water reactors, it may also run into difficulties operating the ELWR, which raises serious safety concerns. For example, if defective fuel is inserted into the core, the cladding may fail to maintain physical integrity and release fission products possibly into the pressure vessel and containment building, forcing a shut down. Iran recently unloaded the fuel from its Bushehr reactor, implying a serious safety problem. Operating the reactor cooling system may also pose challenges as the Iranians discovered when a faulty pump led to lengthy delays in 2011. Moreover, North Korea has no experience in the specialized task of fabricating the large steel pressure vessels that contain the reactor core. Considerable care must be taken to ensure that the welds holding the vessels together can survive the highly radioactive environment of a nuclear core or risk a catastrophic loss of pressurized coolant that would result in a meltdown. Finally, as the Fukushima event in Japan demonstrated, even a well designed, constructed and tested plant must be capable of addressing unanticipated contingencies such as natural disasters. It is unclear whether the North can deal with such events...

PM Worried Kerry Drifting Toward Arab League Stance

Prime Minister Netanyahu and his aides fear that U.S. Secretary of State Kerry will accept the Arab League definition of the borders for a Palestinian state and the principle of territorial exchanges. Netanyahu and his advisers believe the Arab League declaration could undermine Israel’s position in negotiations, according to an Israeli source familiar with talks held in the past two days. “The PM’s advisers are not keen about the Arab League’s announcement,” the source said. “Netanyahu and his advisers believe it would have been better had this announcement not been made.”

Sharp Rise in Hamas Attempts to Kidnap Israeli Soldiers

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of attempts made by Hamas to kidnap soldiers in Judea and Samaria. According to statistics provided by the GSS, 24 foiled kidnapping attempts took place since the beginning of the year, as opposed to 33 such attempts throughout 2012. High-ranking officers in the Central Command warned that in the past months a worrying trend has been noted of an increase in the number of Hamas groups trying to kidnap soldiers for bargaining purposes.

Downfall of the mightiest fighting machine the Earth has ever seen‏
Who lives by the sword, shall die by the sword. But when a warrior is weak in spirit, and his body doesn't undergo regular training; he will die by the sword as well. ` The American soldier is taught to be a weak personality: he cannot speak about the faith in Jesus when he meets with muslims, he cannot tell comrades that he is against gays in the Military, for this will ruin his chances of promotion. Then, when he is in contact with the enemy, he cannot counterattack the way he deems best. He has to follow rules made by politicians and for every step he takes he needs orders and permission from commanders who are not present at the scene. So, the American soldier becomes less eager to fight, less inclined to show initiative and courage. This is the tragic story of how the mightiest fighting machine the world has ever seen, goes down in the hands of atheists, Marxists and pacifist politicians.`
God bless those, who serve, and of whom the eyes have been awakened`. May God give them strength~to keep the warrior mentality`, and to avenge the crimes against their country.

At the time, the momentum appeared to be moving away from the party Lapid, 49, had formed, Yesh Atid, which means “There Is a Future.”

· Israel’s right wing was surging, energized by a former hi-tech success story and onetime commando named Naftali Bennett and his Jewish Home party. Lapid acknowledged the headwind, but argued – presciently, as it turned out – that the silent, secular bastion of Middle Israel had not yet been heard from… He also spoke at length about why Israelis talk so much less about the issue that defines the region for the outside world — the Palestinian question.

· Lapid: The only group of people who are not represented [in Israeli politics] are the majority. […] We are trying to create a voice for those. And some of them will come to us and in other arenas, what we will do is influence other parties at least to talking about middle class problems: tax rate, housing, education – all those things that Time magazine readers are not interested in because all they want to talk about is the conflict and what will happen next.

TIME: No one in Israel wants to talk about the peace process. They’re past that. Talk about that disconnect.

· Lapid: Israelis convinced themselves that there is no use in talking to the Palestinians because they’re not to be trusted. I think they’re wrong. I think the Palestinians are not to be trusted and this exactly why we should talk to them. Because you make peace with foes not with friends…. Interestingly enough, all polls show the mass majority of Israelis say the two-state solution is the only game in town, but is quite comfortable with the fact that nothing happens. I myself think this is irresponsible. I think we don’t want to make the mistake the Israeli left makes time and time again of telling up front what it is they’re willing to give up. But we have to go back to the negotaitions table.

In a sincere way or because that is what the world sort of expects?

· Lapid: No, in a sincere way. You know my father didn’t come here from the ghetto in order to live in a country that is half Arab, half Jewish. He came here to live in a Jewish state. And we have 3.3 million Palestinians now between the sea and the eastern border of Israel. If we don’t do something about it, her generation [nods toward a 15-year-old girl at our table] is going to spend her time with six or seven or eight million Palestinians. So doing nothing about it is shortsighted. Unbelievably enough I do believe Netanyahu believes the same, but he does not have the coalition, and right now not even the party to support him. So maybe in a few weeks one of my jobs will be to make sure he has enough fingers to vote about this, from within the coalition or from opposition, same thing.

The Likud list, and this surge by Naftali Bennett, has that helped you look more moderate by comparison?

· Lapid: There is one thing that is crucial. Right now we have with the Palestinians a national dispute. But the point of no return is the moment this has become a religious dispute. Jews versus Muslims. Not yet. With Hamas it’s a religious dispute. But not yet with Fatah. With the Palestinian authority we have a national dispute. And we should keep it this way, because a national dispute we can solve. When it gets into my God is better than yours, then it becomes an everlasting conflict.

Everyone says Israel’s becoming more religious, too.

· Lapid: I don’t think Israel’s becoming more religious. I think Israel’s politics is becoming more religious. There’s a difference. Definitely. We see by the way more and more religious people. My second in command in my party is a rabbi who lives in a settlement and talks about a two-state solution. There is within the religious population in Israel many different voices, some if not most, more moderate than the political representatives.

A lot of people are not finding politics very fascinating, but these guys [the right-wing settlers] are driving the bus because nobody else is interested. It seems to be happening this election.

· Lapid: Yeah maybe so but it’s always a mistake to question the determination of the majority of Israelis. We are all pretty determined people. And like Americans we tend to think about the place we live in not only as a place but also as an idea. And we’re pretty eager to make sure this idea will last. I know the whole saying that this cannot happen without civil war and so on and so forth. There is no civil war between 93% of the population and 7% of the population. It does not work like this. The thing that makes them [settler movement] flourish is the fact that the country does not know where it’s heading.

Right. It seems fairly clear that both sides, the Palestinians and the Israelis are sort of ambivalent.

· Lapid: Right. And in the land of the ambivalent, those who are determined will flourish. So, yes. But this is the difference between… an ideological group and this huge carrier that is called the country, that moves slower, that makes decisions in a very different manner, but when it moves, it moves. And you know what? There’s been polling forever and ever, and the majority of Israelis understand that aside from the big blocs of settlements, Gush Etzion, Maale Adiumim and Ariel, we will withdraw eventually. […]

Israel is at once both this incredibly fractious society, and one of the most unified in the world, maybe the most.

· Lapid: In ways and at moments. What unifies us is forces in the outside. And the fact that we understand the complexity of what’s going on. If we feel we’re being misjudged by the world – mostly by the Europeans, by the way. You know I was talking with the BBC the other day, they said something about the two-state solution and I said, yeah, why didn’t you give back Ireland 100 years ago? People tend to feel that their problems are complex and other people’s problems are very simple to solve. It’s never the case.

Where are the swing voters or geographies? Where are these things decided?

· Lapid: Young people. Nobody knows how to poll them. In Israel, unlike the United States, they didn’t move the polling from households to cellular. My American strategist is Mark Mellman, pollster of the year in 2011 and 2012. He was horrified by the way polling is done here. So young people are going to be very interesting and crucial to every campaign. […]

Two Israelis Killed as Over 200 More Rockets Hit Israel

One Israeli soldier and one civilian were killed in Israel yesterday as over 200 rockets landed in Israel on the seventh day of Operation Pillar of Defence. Analysts have noted that militants are increasingly firing multiple rockets simultaneously in attempts to overwhelm the Iron Dome defence system and increase casualties. Corporal Yosef Partuk, an 18-year-old soldier, was killed when a barrage of rockets hit the kibbutz where he was stationed in the Eshkol regional council. In the same region, civilian Elian Salam Id Alanbary, was killed and 16 others wounded by a projectile fired from Gaza.

Netanyahu: No Country Can Tolerate Wanton Attacks on Civilians

PM Netanyahu in a press conference yesterday after meeting with Hillary Clinton: “I want to thank President Obama, you and the American government, and the people, for their strong support for Israel in this hour of need. I want to also thank you especially for your support of Iron Dome. It's been saving lives, and we are in a battle to save lives. One of the things that we are doing is trying to resist and counter a terrorist barrage which is aimed directly at our civilians and doing so by minimizing civilian casualties, whereas the terrorist enemies of Israel are doing everything in their power to maximize the number of civilian casualties. Obviously, no country can tolerate a wanton attack on its civilians.”

U.S. Ambassador Raped by Muslims Before Killing – Arab Media Reports‏

With the visit of Mitt Romney to Jerusalem, it has now begun a new cycle in the relationship between the USA, ISRAEL and the whole Judeo-Christian world.
From this day on, terror and those that support violence and preach the destruction of Israel and of the "Crusaders" (Christians) will be on the defensive.
The signs are still small and vague, but please believe that righteousness is winning this generation's final battle (and with your help and responsible choices it will be won even faster).

Romney: Criticism Strengthens Israel’s Enemies

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney held a round of meetings in Israel yesterday. Romney met in the morning with PM Binyamin Netanyahu and later with President Shimon Peres and Opposition Chairman Shaul Mofaz. Romney said: “Diplomatic distance in public between our nations emboldens Israel’s adversaries.” Romney sought to position himself during his speech, as well as during his meetings and his visit to the Western Wall, as someone whose commitment and identification with the Jewish people are substantially different from those of incumbent President Obama. In Europe the anti-Obama sentiment is growing.
The recent involvment of the White House in Europe, Mr. Obama highly publicized phone calls to Germany's Merkel and to the very unpopular Prime Minister of Italy, Mr. Monti, the leader of  the so-called "technical" government, a messy mix of bankers and finance gurus, with no political affiliations, but also with no administrative experience, demonstrate one important fact:
the change in the political leadership toward inexperienced, unprepared people that can be

ITALY looking up to the US Constitution.
On May 25th 2012, former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, as we wrote many months ago, announced not only his intention to stay the course, but he presented a plan to change the Italian Constitution and make it more like that of the USA, beginning with the direct election of the President. Presently the italian President is chosen by the Italian Congress through a complicated set of consultations, the direct election of the President will give more freedom of choice to the italian citizens. Naturally the clear implication is that Mr. Berlusconi will be running for the post in the spring of 2013.

France: the decision of Marine LePen has
given the nation in the hands of islamists.

When Marine Le Pen did cast her WHITE BALLOT into the Presidential election, she did turn off many of her own supporters, and by suggesting to the conservative wing of the electorate to stay home, she handed the nation of France on a silver plate to the socialist candidate and to his islamist supporters.
Did she do it to spite Mr. Sarkosy ? Was she seduced by some socialist promises ? We do not know. It remains the fact that without her support the extreme left and the islamists in France may gain the Presidency and create big problems for the rest of Europe, and consequently for the USA and the Western World.

Moody’s Downgrades Israel’s Outlook to Negative

A further proof that some of the financial institutions play dirty politics.

The Moody’s international credit ratings agency downgraded Israel’s banking system outlook on Tuesday from stable to negative, saying the move reflected a predicted economic drop-off. “The negative outlook reflects the projected slowdown in economic growth and the country’s challenging operating environment which will continue over the 12-18 month outlook period,” Moody’s wrote in a press release. Netanyahu: We Owe Independence to Fallen Troops

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for national unity and voiced his personal grief at a ceremony commemorating Israel's fallen soldiers held in Jerusalem on the eve of Remembrance Day. "For us, the bereaved families, time stood still the moment we received the terrible news," he said, referring to the loss of his brother, Yonatan, who was killed in action during Operation Entebbe in 1976.   "Each memorial day I think of my dear brother, about my parents, who lost a beloved son, and my brother Ido who also lost his sibling," Netanyahu said. "Like many other citizens, I remember my comrades who have fallen. When the siren sounds, we will all become one family," he added. "The citizens of Israel will unite in mourning and remembrance. They will bow their heads in gratitude to those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our people. Thanks to them, we were granted independence and the right to live safely in our country.”

Now, on the secund turn, Sarko (moderate) and Hollander (communist/socialist) face each other, but the question is: can Sarko and LePen create a great coalition, like the one among former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the Northern League, that propelled them to rule Italy for almost 20 years ?

U.S. Congress Supports Funding for Israel's Iron Dome System The Iron Dome missile defense system has proven its effectiveness, as it successfully intercepted nearly 60 rockets fired from within the Gaza Strip last week. U.S. Congressmen were also impressed by the performance, and Rep. Howard L. Berman – the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee – introduced the Iron Dome Support Act (IDSA) authorizing the President to provide assistance if requested by the Israeli government to procure additional Iron Dome systems. Congressman Berman said: “When Palestinian terrorists launched their latest round of missile attacks on innocent Israelis, the Iron Dome anti-missile system saved innocent lives and prevented an escalation of hostilities and a full-blown crisis." He added that "Israel must have the ability to defend itself from rocket and missile attacks, and the United States will continue to stand by our strong ally if called upon in times of need."

Some Presbyterians Take Another Step Toward Hate for Israel The Presbyterian Church USA is faced with a choice about the future of its relations with the Jewish community and, indeed, the vast majority of Americans who ardently support the state of Israel. Unfortunately, rather than listen to voices of reason, church leaders have today taken another step toward approval of measures that place the denomination in favor of economic war against the Jewish state when their General Assembly Mission Council voted to recommend a report that calls for “selective divestment” from Israel. Though the PCUSA claims what it is doing is meant to encourage peace, it is doing just the opposite. By approving a call for santions on some companies that do business in Israel, the PCUSA is not only doing something that will encourage Palestinians to persist in refusing to make peace, they have also done something that makes it impossible for Jews and others who care about Israel to continue to work with the church on any issue.  Such measures are part of an international campaign of attacks on the legitimacy of Israel and Jewish rights.

A Statement from Rush on "contraceptives" health benefits. www.rushlimbaugh.com

India was the first buyer of Iranian oil to agree to pay for its purchases in gold instead of the US dollar, DEBKAfile reports exclusively. Those sources expect China to follow suit. India and China take about one million barrels per day, or 40 percent of Iran's total exports of 2.5 million bpd. Both will therefore substantially cushion the impact of the decision of Monday, Jan. 22, by Europe, which takes about one-fifth of Iran's oil, to impose an oil embargo on Iran. It also enables Iran to go around the EU freeze on the assets of its central bank. DEBKAfile's intelligence sources disclose that Tehran has set up alternative financial mechanisms with China and Russia for getting paid for its oil in currencies other than US dollars. Both Beijing and Moscow are keeping the workings of those mechanisms top secret.

Greece, Portugal, Italy and others EU nations should, and will eventually, drop off the Euro.

Christine Madeleine Odette Lagarde, is the managing director of the IMF International Monetary Fund) since July 2011. Today in a short interview with Maria Bartiromo on MSCNBC she tried to explain why the Greeks should, in effect, sell their nation to the Germans and to the international funds. On a parallel new, some edge funds in the US and elsewhere are planning to SUE Greece for failing to repay some of its debt. Sorry but to me that is a clear and simple example of financial dictatorship. I do not approve of the Greek political past, nor its present leadership (they are no Leonidas for sure), I believe their socialist agenda got them in this kind of trouble for sure, but I think every red-blooded American believes that this is no reason to sell one's soul to the devilish financial institutions that, very wrongly and probably unethically, did loan them the money. Just like here at home, if Mr. Smith, Mrs. Brown or Mr. Gonzales cannot pay the mortgage that was so easily given to them a few years back by greedy and sometime criminally negligent (toward their own shareholder) Banks, they should probably loose their home, as it is happening, but the banks should have absolutely no further recourse against the poor souls who were duped into a fantasy by irresponsible bank and mortgage salesmen.  Now Germany's Prime Minister Angela Merkel suggest some kind of quid pro quo whereby Germany would play a major role in a proposed eurobank recapitalization programme, in return for which, Greece, Portugal and may be Italian Banks would take a serious cut and  give up their financial independence.  Are we becoming slaves of the financial institutions that gamble with our money?  Are we rolling over and play dead when Chinese, German and other banks come asking for money that they loaned us so easily?  No my friends, we should not. Let's have Judges and Justice departments all over the globe check in the cloudy and murky waters of the hedge funds, lets demand from our politicians, left and right, to return to the kind of legislation that did NOT allowed banks to gamble, not even to buy or sell stocks, but to simply keep our deposits in TRUST , secure and safe. It is our hard-earned money, for God's sake! And so should Italy, Greece, France and other European political leaders say stop to both German and all other financial institutions, local and international, who try to squeeze blood from an already way too taxed and enslaved population.     By   Guido George Lombardi

India, Israel Pledge Cooperation on Counterterrorism, Trade

India and Israel are pledging greater cooperation in counterterrorism and trade. Indian Foreign Minister S. M. Krishna said Tuesday during a visit to Israel that the two countries will have to work out a strategy on how to address the "scourge of international terrorism which has become the curse for the entire humanity." Prime Minister Netanyahu said India and Israel are "two ancient peoples seizing the future in technology, in innovation, [and] in enterprise."

Greece, Israel Pledge to Boost Defense Ties

Greece and Israel pledged Tuesday to boost defense cooperation during a visit to Greece by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. Traditionally pro-Arab Greece, which did not officially recognize Israel until 1991, has stepped up efforts to attract investment and expertise to shore up its economy. The two countries are trying to "make up for lost time," Greek Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos said. Athens is keenly interested in Israel's economic rapprochement with traditional Greek ally Cyprus to develop undersea gas deposits in the eastern Mediterranean.

Europe Takes Bold Step toward a Ban on Iranian Oil European countries have taken their boldest step so far in the increasingly tense standoff with Iran over its nuclear program, agreeing (in principle) to impose an embargo on Iranian oil, French and European diplomats said on Wednesday. A final decision by the European Union will not come before the end of January and would be carried out in stages to avoid major disruptions in global oil supplies. But the move by some of Iran’s most important oil customers appears to underscore the resolve of Western allies to impose on Iran the toughest round of sanctions to date, increasing pressure on Tehran to stop enriching uranium and negotiate an end to what Western leaders argue is an accelerating program to build a nuclear bomb. Jerusalem Post

UK Threatens Military Action against Iran

The UK may take military action against Iran if it carries out its threat to block the Strait of Hormuz, Defense Secretary Philip Hammond warns in a speech in Washington D.C. Any attempt by Iran to block the strategically important waterway in retaliation for sanctions against its oil exports would be ―illegal and unsuccessful‖ and the Royal Navy will join any action to keep it open, Hammond said. ―Our joint naval presence in the Arabian Gulf, something our regional partners appreciate, is key to keeping the Straits of Hormuz open for international trade, Hammond will say, adding ―It is in all our interests that the arteries of global trade are kept free, open and running.

U.S. to Pressure China and Japan to Back Iran sanctions Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will travel to China (AGAIN !!!!) and Japan next week to hold high-level economic talks, the Treasury Department announced Wednesday. High on the agenda will be getting Chinese support for new sanctions against Iran (HOW MUCH IS HE PAYING HIS CHINESE FRIENSDS ???), which is forging ahead with its plans to develop a nuclear weapon. Iran will also be a top priority in Japan. Iran has threatened to block shipping in the Persian Gulf in order to cause a spike in oil prices, in retaliation. China is one of the biggest customers for Iran’s oil (and nuclear technology provider together with Russia and Pakistan) and has shown reluctance to punish Tehran.

Extremist Settlers Torch Mosque in Ramallah

Jewish settlers on Thursday torched a village mosque near Ramallah and sprayed racist graffiti in Hebrew on its walls, witnesses said. The Al-Nour Mosque in Burqa was still burning when villagers arrived for morning prayers, locals said, adding that the fire had spread to the first and second floors and caused extensive damage. The attack comes a day after Jewish extremists torched a 13th century mosque in Jerusalem, spraying "Death to the Arabs" and "Muhammad is a pig" on the building.

Dear Fellow Conservative,

The latest unemployment figures are out – and while any job creation is welcome news, too many Americans are still looking for work.

ISRAEL Ambassador to the UN meets with MARINE Le Pen

by Guido George Lombardi

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi did resign following a staged vote on economic measures required by the European Central Bank. Berlusconi dedided to "stay at the window" and look at the work of the new Prime Minister, Mr. Monti. "If in line with the old coalition's goals and programs, we will support them, if not we may have to go to early elections". Most likely Italy will vote this (2012) coming spring. Monti must pass a number of laws already presented by the Popolo delle Liberta’ (the People Freedom Party) and the Northern League.

For months the coalition partner, Umberto Bossi, has spoken in favor of early elections. I believe that after many years as the unchallenged leader of the coalition, it is time for Mr. Berlusconi to choose his successor. Early elections are quite the norm in Italy, and just like the United Kingdom, the party that holds the majority in Congress (Parlaiment) often chooses the best time for the popular vote.  I would not be surprised if Mr. Berlusconi had decided already months ago to go to the vote in the spring of 2012, after having passed all the economic and financial measures his coalition thought were necessary for the good of the nation. In spite of what some of the media reports, the Italian banks and Italian financial institutions are a lot better off than their French or German counterparts. Italy’s banks hold only about 3 % of the Greek debt, as opposed to about 25 to 30 % each for the French and German.

It is amazing to me to see the degree of disinformation, or plain ignorance, or maybe it is just bias, from a few of the media covering the events in Italy. But then even in the USA we have witnessed the total bias of a few media outlets.

Berlusconi, who has dominated Italian politics for 17 years, had steadfastly refused to step down until Tuesday's vote. The Northern League, and most members of the PDL, were believed to have wanted Berlusconi to make way for a new centre-right government, possibly with former Justice Secretary Mr. Angelino Alfano, to tackle the grave economic crisis without handing power to a transitional administration. The centre-left opposition said they abstained to lay bare the weakness of Berlusconi's support, while allowing the passage of a bill that is vital for government funding.

Interest rates on Italy's debt have soared, due to the dirty work of speculator like Mr. Soros. Yields on Italy's 10-year benchmark bonds rose to 7.04 percent. If Italy is just too big to bail out like Greece, then it may be the right time for the Euro to be reorganized. The UK has never joined the Euro and this may be the time to let those nations who do not care to continue to be dictated by Germany and France to get out of the single currency. Personally I believe it will happen and it will be a really good thing. Many observer in the US know well that Berlusconi is believed to have wanted to carry on until Christmas so that Italy would then go to early elections in 2012, this may just be a few weeks earlier, but it has all the markings of a political play by one of the most able conservative coalition on the old continent.

Former Israeli mil intel chief Amos Yadlin: Iran has sufficient material to build 4-5 nuclear bombs. Once Iran goes public on this, Israel ceases to be the lead player in the field. NATO-Gulf military officers in Turkey prepare for intervention in Syria     DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

28 Nov. A group of military officers from NATO and Persian Gulf nations have quietly established a mixed operational command at Iskenderun in the Turkish Hatay province on the border of North Syria, DEBKAfile's military sources report. Hailing from the United States, France, Canada, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with Turkish officers providing liaison, they are designated "monitors" tasked with establishing "humanitarian corridors" to serve the victims of Bashar Assad's crackdown. Commanded by ground, naval, air force and engineering officers, the task force in reality aims to take over most of northern Syria. Laying the groundwork for the legitimacy of their operation, the UN Independent International Commission on Syria published a horrendous report Monday, Nov. 28 on the Assad regime's brutalities. It documented "gross violations of human rights" and "patterns of summary execution, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, torture including sexual violence, as well as violations of children's rights."

Glenn Beck

It's not a good day to be a liberal, but today is especially a bad day to be a liberal because Glenn Beck is back! The 2 hour Glenn Beck Show launched  on September 12th, and can be seen exclusively on GBTV.com weekdays at the familiar 5pm ET time slot.

United West sponsored by North Atlantic League in Palm Beach.

Home Front Commander Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg warned Monday, Sept. 5 of the increasing peril of a total Middle East war in the wake of the Arab revolts and Israel's rift with Turkey.
Stressing the long term, Eisenberg warned that the Arab Spring would likely evolve into "a radical Islamic winter" raising the potential for "total war in the Middle East" and the possible use of weapons of mass destruction.
His comments shocked Israel's policy-makers and defense establishment out of their complacence. The defense minister's adviser Amos Gilead, hurriedly denied this prediction. "Israel's security situation has never been better," he said insisting "The Arab regimes around us are stable."

Italy leads financial reforms, beginning with Tea Party favorite: a BALANCED BUDGET. Even the Germans applaude (and hopefully will follow).

Italy's Prime Minister Berlusconi borrows from the American Founding Fathers and the US Constitution two basic principles for the nation's economic and financial reform and vows to complete term, focusing on growth.
Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi vowed on Wednesday to complete his five-year term and focus his government policies on growth to calm the market turmoil that threatens Europe. Taking a leadership role, with support from France and Germany, Italy's unsinkable PM proposed two constitutional amendments that, even if familiar with US and Tea Party voters, are new to european politics. First a much needed BALANCED BUDGET mandate, a constitutional law that will require a balanced budget by 2011. Another important principle, well know in the US, but not yet part of the European mindset, is the principle that "people, and businesses, are free to act unless specifically forbidden by law". Seems obvious to us american, but in the old continent it is not so, the State regulates what you can do as well as what you cannot. People and businesses are constantly worried if their actions and activities are lawful or not, and often the lack of clear regulations stifles innovation and change.

After a number of volatile days, due to the US crisis, on markets, Berlusconi told parliament that Italy "has done some, but not enough" in response to the crisis. "But we know there is more to do."

Addressing the lower house of parliament, and then the Senate in Rome, he said Italy needs to promote competitiveness and growth. He emphasized that Italian banks remained solid and that investors who were pushing up Italy's borrowing rates did not recognize the country's fundamental strengths: a stable banking system, low levels of private sector indebtedness -- half that of the United States and Britain -- and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

"Our duty as the government is to work for the good of Italy, making the economy take off," he said.

Berlusconi was firm that he will stay in office until his mandate expires in 2013.

Berlusconi said that the 70 billion Euros ($99 billion) in austerity measures passed last month will balance the budget by 2014, and emphasized that another 9 billion in infrastructure projects, mostly in the poorer south approved earlier Wednesday, will help promote growth.

"Everyone does his own part: stability has always been the winning strategy against speculation," he said.

Italy's 10-year borrowing rate briefly spiked to 6.21 percent before easing to 6.06 percent.

Spain was also under the market spotlight, forcing Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to delay his vacation by two days. Its 10-year borrowing rate edged down to 6.23 percent from Tuesday's euro-era high of 6.45 percent.

Last month, the leaders of the 17 eurozone countries agreed to changes to the region's rescue fund that would allow it to act pre-emptively, for instance by providing short-term loans or buying up ailing bonds on the open market, before a country is in a full-blown crisis.

However, actually implementing those decisions takes time, and in many cases the changes to the fund's powers will have to be approved by national parliaments, most of which are currently on summer break.

Earlier Wednesday, Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti held talks with some of the currency union's top officials. He traveled to Luxembourg to meet Jean-Claude Juncker, who chairs the regular meetings of eurozone finance ministers, and spoke on the phone with the EU's Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn.

Rehn expressed full confidence that Tremonti and the Italian authorities in general are taking the necessary measures to get the country's economy back on track.

Italy has debt nearing 120 percent of economic output, but had been viewed for months with calm by bond markets. The country has low levels of private debt and has not had the real estate and banking collapse that caused trouble for the United States, Greece, and Ireland.

The “vaporization of Israel” and the end of the Western way of life as we know it could be on the horizon, American broadcaster Glenn Beck warned in an interview with The Jerusalem Post in the capital’s David Citadel Hotel on WednesdayBeck came to Israel to prepare for “Restoring Courage,” his Jerusalem mega-event set for late next month. He also addressed the Knesset’s Diaspora Affairs Committee, toured Gush Etzion and Sderot, and met with hi-tech entrepreneurs and Vice Premier Moshe Ya’alon.

“[Christian Israel supporters] see tragedy coming down the pike unless we take a stand,” Beck said. “Many of us were asleep for a long time. There are Americans who still say it will never happen, and everything will work out because we are America. But I know Americans outside of Washington who know that’s not necessarily true – not unless you change that behavior. We are waking up to what could be on the horizon: and what could be on the horizon is the vaporization of Israel and the end of the Western way of life as we know it,” he continued. Beck said the way to prevent such a tragedy was to stand together, be righteous and decent and protect one another. To that end, he is organizing three separate events in Jerusalem under the Restoring Courage banner. One will be for American- Christians and will be viewed in hundreds of churches in the US.  Beck said the event is intended to “get the Christian community in America to wake up and start standing up [for Israel].” Another event will be more political, featuring Democratic Senator Joseph Lieberman, Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Herman Cain, and at least two other candidates whom Beck declined to reveal. He said the event would be attended by more than 30 American national political figures, 70 international politicians and citizen delegations from 100 countries around the world, including Bahrain. At Beck’s request, Americans will be getting together to watch the event, bringing Jews and Christians together. More than 700 viewing parties have already been organized. “If it’s just an event, we failed,” he said. “It’s a launch of a movement of decent, like-minded, freedom-loving peaceful people who know the answer won’t come from Washington or Copenhagen. It’s not going to come from our political leaders, but from the people. It’s a freedom movement, something the Tel Aviv hi-tech people and the most Orthodox in Jerusalem would understand and come together for.” Beck vowed that the event would be bipartisan and would not develop into a rally against US president Barack Obama. Even though he is one of Obama’s fiercest critics, Beck makes a point of not criticizing the American administration when he’s abroad. “Now that we’re a global community, this answer doesn’t seem to make sense because a lot of people here in Israel watch my program, but I don’t talk about the policies of my country outside my country,” he said. “If you want to know my opinion of the policies of the president, you can go to YouTube and see what I said in New York, and will continue to say in New York. There won’t be politics in this event. There will be values, virtues and principles.” The world leader whom will more likely be a central focus of speeches at the event will be Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Much like Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Beck does not shy away from using Holocaust terminology when warning about Iran’s nuclearization. Beck, who visited Auschwitz on his way to Israel for a documentary on Righteous Gentiles, says the world must learn from history. “I was on the radio four years ago saying we’re passing all the exits,” he said. “Soon it’s a cliff. You’ve got to turn the car around. Someone needs to find a solution. Come what may, will we be brave enough? I told Netanyahu when Bush was president, the Americans won’t do it. No one else is going to do it. Those [Iranian] people will build trains again [for the Jews]. [Ahmadinejad] said the Jews will burn in the fires of the Islamic fury. I think that’s pretty clear.”

Seven Truths About Israel, Hamas and Violence

By Jeffrey Goldberg

· There are many lies being told about the current conflict between Israel and Hamas. Here are seven things that are true.

· No. 1. This most recent outbreak of violence represents the opening round of the third Palestinian intifada. The first intifada, which began in 1987 and petered out in the early 1990s, was an uprising of stones and Molotov cocktails. The second intifada, which began 12 years ago, was an uprising of suicide bombers. The third uprising, inevitably, was going to feature rockets and missiles. I don’t care to think about what sorts of weapons and tactics will feature in the fourth intifada.

· No. 2. Hamas’s strategy in this latest conflict makes perfect sense. Hamas, which is the Palestine branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, is theologically committed to the obliteration of Israel and believes, as a matter of faith, that Jews are Allah’s enemies. Its leaders have believed, since the group’s inception, that Jews are soft (“We love death and they love life,” a Hamas leader once told me, and it is a commonly expressed thought). Hamas also believes that eventually misery and fear will drive most Jews to leave Israel, which it views as a Muslim waqf, or endowment, not merely the rightful home of the Palestinian people.

· This strategy only works because Hamas leaders believe that the deaths of Palestinians aid their cause. As we have seen in this latest iteration of the Arab-Israeli war, every death of a Palestinian civilian is a victory for Hamas and a defeat for Israel. Palestinians in Gaza who dissent from this approach are often punished by Hamas.

· No. 3. Hamas’s decision to increase the tempo of rocket attacks at Israeli civilian targets -- the cause of this latest round of violence, as President Barack Obama and most Western leaders have asserted -- emerged not only from a desire on the part of the group to terrorize the Jewish state out of existence. It also emerged from a cold political calculation that the Arab Spring (or, in the eyes of Hamas, the Islamist Spring) means that the arc of history is bending toward them and away from the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas and its more moderate Arab supporters. This analysis has encouraged Hamas to assert itself now as the main player in the Palestinian “resistance.”

· No. 4. The Jews aren’t abandoning ship. One of the reasons Hamas’s strategy so far hasn’t worked is because Israel’s Jews are more patriotic, and braver, than Hamas ideologues can bring themselves to admit. The Jews didn’t abandon Israel during the height of Hamas’s suicide-bombing campaigns in the 1990s and early 2000s, and hundreds of Israeli Jews, as well as Israeli Muslims, Christians and foreign visitors, died in those campaigns. As of this writing, three Israeli Jews have died in the past week’s rocket attacks.

· The majority of Israelis believe that they are finally home. Unlike their ancestors during the long period of exile from Israel following the Roman conquest of Jerusalem, they believe it is wrong and counterproductive to run from persecution and attack.

· No. 5. Israel, unlike Hamas, has no strategy in Gaza. It has only tactics. Israel is justified in defending itself. It isn’t tenable for a sovereign state to allow its citizens to go unprotected from rocket attacks from someone else’s territory. If Russia or the U.S. had come under similar attack, those responsible would almost immediately find themselves dead. All of them. But for Israel, military victory over Hamas is impossible, which is why a ground invasion of Gaza is a bad idea. So long as Hamas maintains the capability to fire even one rocket into Israel, or dispatch one suicide bomber to a Tel Aviv cafe, it will view itself as having won this round.

· For a while, at least, expect Hamas to have more difficulty launching attacks. It has, after all, lost much of its rocket force as well as its military commander, the allegedly indispensable Ahmed al-Jabari. But I’ve been to the funerals of four or five indispensable Hamas men over the years, and they are always replaced. Short-term, it is possible that Hamas will refrain from firing rockets and keep others from doing so as well. But there is no long-term military solution for Israel, short of turning Gaza into Chechnya or Dresden. This is militarily feasible, but it would be immoral and would end in Israel losing its international legitimacy.

· No. 6. There also is no direct political solution for Israel. If Hamas were willing to negotiate with Israel about anything more than prisoner exchanges or cease-fires, it wouldn’t be Hamas. It is impossible for Israel to do serious business with an organization that wishes it dead. But there is an indirect political solution for Gaza. The Palestinians are currently split between the moderate camp of Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority, on the West Bank, and the extremists of Hamas in Gaza. Successive Israeli governments have undermined the Palestinian Authority government on the West Bank by expanding the Jewish settler presence.

· The settlement project aids Hamas, which can point to it as proof that Israel is uninterested in the two-state solution endorsed by Hamas’s more-moderate rivals. If Israel were to reverse settlement growth, this could serve to buttress Palestinian moderates, who are in a position to negotiate with Israel. If the West Bank were to gain real freedom, the Palestinians of Gaza might turn away from Hamas. All of this is unlikely -- pessimism needs to be our guide in the Middle East - - but this plan represents the only alternative to continued military strikes on Gaza by Israel.

· No. 7. Opinions on both sides hardened in the first intifada and hardened further in the second. Here in the third, they will harden some more. Palestinian society is infected with dreams of physically eliminating its enemy. Parts of Israeli society, too, are succumbing to fever dreams of total victory. The trends on both sides are almost entirely negative. The most likely outcome of this round: A cease-fire, a period of quiet and then a gradual return to shooting.

Friends and allies, partners against terrorism

Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.)

have introduced a Friends of ISRAEL resolution that reads:

Declaring that it is the policy of the United States to support and facilitate Israel in maintaining defensible borders and that it is contrary to United States policy and national security to have the borders of Israel return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967. Whereas, throughout its short history, Israel, a liberal democratic ally of the United States, has been repeatedly attacked by authoritarian regimes and terrorist organizations that denied its right to exist; Whereas the United States Government remains steadfastly committed to the security of Israel, especially its ability to maintain secure, recognized, and defensible borders; Whereas the United States Government is resolutely bound to its policy of preserving and strengthening the capability of Israel to deter enemies and defend itself against any threat; Whereas United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 (1967) recognized Israel’s ‘‘right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force’’; Whereas the United States has long recognized that a return to the 1967 lines would create a strategic military vulnerability for Israel and greatly impede its sovereign right to defend its borders; and Whereas Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu correctly stated on May 20, 2011, that the 1967 lines were not ‘‘boundaries of peace. They are the boundaries of repeated war’’: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That, (1) it is the policy of the United States to support and facilitate Israel in creating and maintaining secure, recognized, and defensible borders; and (2) it is contrary to United States policy and our national security to have the borders of Israel return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 9 1967. President Obama’s spinners will certainly argue this is unnecessary and point that he called for 1967 borders with “land swaps.” But the point of the resolution is clear: The United States has a long bipartisan position on the primacy of defensible borders and that the U.S. role is to “facilitate” Israel’s security, not undermine its bargaining position. Moreover, if this is the Obama position, why have no Democratic senators signed on? And if it’s precisely what Obama meant to say, why not signal his approval? Unless, of course, Obama is playing a double game — signaling to the Palestinians one position and voicing platitudes to quiet critics at home. BY JENNIFER RUBIN, WASHINGTON POST
