The Business of Education

When we're not busy networking we love a worthwhile challenge - we're on a mission - to support Schools, Colleges and Academies to build stronger connections with local employers.

Using Microsoft Office for planning, scheduling, creating documents and a host of spreadsheets for data management, alongside free digital applications such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Eventbrite and email marketing tools a 'paper-free' project to host a business networking event on the school premises is planned, promoted and executed.

Representatives from a wide and varied range of sectors attend to help staff understand and connect students with career options available in their local area.

Attendees are invited to register as a lasting partnership to support students in a variety of ways both in school and out in the workplace.

Working in partnership and engaging with local employers and their professional communities will improve the number, range and quality of options available for work experience, job shadowing, work placements, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

Working together in Partnership to develop the next generation of employees.

An insight into the world of work can be a game changing experience for young people.

We have worked with several educational establishments to organise business network meetings on their premises and develop closer relationships between educators and future employers.

These include:

Thirsk School & Sixth Form College

Northallerton College

Durham Johnston School

St Robert of Newminster Catholic School

Park View School

Below are a few exerts from our 'Business of Education' events.

Northallerton School & Sixth Form College

College becomes focal point for community connections

Local companies and organisations were invited to Northallerton College for a networking event designed to strengthen links between business and education.

The college was keen to develop and enhance existing links and create new ones with businesses who could also help develop the curriculum.

Educational establishments are keen to explore ways of developing more valuable links between students and local businesses to make the most of the opportunities presented.

Thirsk School & Sixth Form College

Business Network

Thirsk School is Open for Business.

Head of careers commented: Unbelievably this event cost us no more than the price of tea, coffee and refreshments and not only met our objectives to engage , reinforce and forge new links with local businesses but also generated revenue to cover the cost of some staff training on digital media.

The chairman of Thirsk Business Association said: We are fully committed to developing links between schools and local businesses to assist with work placements, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. Helping the school, the students and local businesses. This event which was initiated to further facilitate that process and succeeded to help us achieve our aims and goals

Durham Johnston School & Sixth Form College

Business Network - Held on school premises and attended by 50+ local business owners

" It was good to see how much interest the event generated and we as a school have definitely benefited as there are a number of attendees that have offered to come and give talks to students.

I also learnt about hootsuite which is going to save me a lot of admin time, so thank you for that!" B.Garside, Computing, Durham Johnston School.

We look forward to working with Schools, Colleges & Academies from across the North East and North Yorkshire.
