It's time to think about awards!  We hope that this e-mail will contain all the information that you need to help us recognize your students.

AATG NATIONAL EXAM RESULTS should arrive electronically in the coming week.  Students who have scored at or above the 90th percentile at their level will be invited to the NOIL AATG AWARDS CEREMONY at College of DuPage on Sunday, April 28.  We will send out invitations to teacher and students near the end of March, but please save the date now!

The national AATG allows each chapter to nominate ONE candidate for the Study Trip Award I (9th, 10th or 11th grader) and ONE candidate for the Study Trip II (12th grader).  This means that EACH SCHOOL may nominate ONE 12TH GRADER and ONE (9TH) 10TH OR 11TH GRADER for the study trip and other regional awards, provided that THEY MEET THE CRITERIA below.  The regional nominations are forwarded the national AATG, which selects the study trip winners.

CRITERIA: Nominees must: 1. be at/above the 90th percentile on their level of the AATG national exam

2. have an overall school average of B or better

3. be 15 years of age by June 1, 2019

4. be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

5. not live in a household where German is spoken daily

6. never have enrolled in a school where instruction was chiefly in German

7. not have visited a German-speaking country for more than 2 consecutive weeks since age 6

8. not plan on visiting a German-speaking country for 2 weeks or more in the next 12 months

9. not previously have one this or similar awards

In addition, NOIL AATG requires that candidates attend an interview on March 10.

Please note that requirements #6-9 are the decision of the Paedagogischer Austauschdienst, which funds student exchanges as well as these study trips and wants to extend opportunities to as many different students as possible.

APPLICATIONS must be submitted on NGE Awards page of the AATG website (www.aatg.org), which can be found under “Student Programs.”   All forms and documents must be received by 11:59 p.m. on March 8 so that we can create a schedule for the candidate interviews, which begin only 34 hours later.

REGIONAL INTERVIEWS will take place at Elmhurst College on Sunday, March 10, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. If a student has a special time consideration for that date, please let us know as soon as possible.  We will send out a schedule and information about the precise location before that date. At that interview students will speak and write in German to respond in writing to an e-mail and to interact orally with the interview committee.

Questions may be directed to noilaatgawards@gmail.com.
