2017 Natalie Hill

I'm Natalie Hill, a current junior at Antioch Community High School, and I was lucky enough to be chosen for the German study trip award last spring. Going to Germany was an unbelievable experience, and one I thought I would never have. Traveling has always been a dream of mine, but until this past summer, I had never been out of the country or flown on a plane.
I was incredibly nervous as I headed onto the plane, and terrified when I finally arrived in Germany. Everything seemed so different, and I was worried that my German wouldn't be good enough to make it through the trip. Luckily, I got over my fears quickly. My host family was amazing and kind, and they took me to see castles, a zoo, a traditional German village, and a play! I also made fast friends with many of the other students on the trip, who all shared my initial fear and quick excitement over the incredible country we were in.
When I came back to the United States, everything felt a bit surreal. My experiences in Germany taught me so much and gave me a completely new perspective, and I'm so incredibly grateful for it!
