About the Meeting

The 2014 Annual Meeting will be on Oct 10th -11th held in Northfield, MN, graciously hosted by Carleton College as part of the celebration of QuIRK's 10-year anniversary.

The annual meeting will include four workshops, two plenaries, and ample opportunities for collaboration and discussion via a hybrid conference-unconference approach.

"Fun Math is Not an Oxymoron: Quantitative Brain Teasers and Other Unthreatening Ways to Infuse Your Course with Numbers" with Kate Follette and Don McCarthy.
"Quantitative Reasoning in the Social Sciences" with Diego Mendez-Carbajo.
"Role-Playing for Quantitative Literacy" with John Curran. 
A Workshop in Five Parts: "Teaching Coincidence", "Using the Log-Normal", "Statistical Significance of Correlations", "Creating Statistical Distributions via Random Processes" & "Using Segmented Regression" with Milo Schield

Coinciding with our annual meeting, there will also be an AALAC (Alliance to Advance Liberal Arts Colleges) funded workshop called "Enhancing Quantitative Reasoning Across the Curriculum". The two day AALAC workshop will include 4 panel discussions open to NNN members covering the following topics:

A. The challenges of integration of QR into non-STEM disciplines
B. Scaffolding QR assignments with the help of academic support staff
C. Using QR to enhance critical thinking in writing assignments
D. Assessing QR assignments individually and institutionally
