The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® scholarship program, a licensed program of Child Care Services Association in Chapel Hill, N.C., has been assisting students in New Mexico since 2004, and has grown to serve 746 students throughout New Mexico during the past year. Budget cuts for Fiscal Year 2011 have forced the program to reduce its bonus amounts (for completion of scholarship contracts) and to limit the number of classes it can support each term. However, the program continues to provide invaluable help to many students. To qualify a person must already be working with young children -- typically in an early childhood center, family child care home or NM PreK Program site in public schools.
For more information, including application forms and brochures, go to the T.E.A.C.H. page on the website of the New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children, which sponsors the program. Here is the link: http://www.nmaeyc.org/teach/default.asp
The T.E.A.C.H. staff includes Project Director Dan Ritchey, Deputy Director Susan Perry and Counselor Marisol Avilés, who is fluent in both Spanish and English. They may be reached at (505) 243-5437.
