Jae-Hoon Kim is a professor at Department of Computer Engineering in Korea Maritime and Ocean University. He was a visiting researcher at Beckman Institute in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from Aug. 2007 to Aug. 2008 and at Information Sciences Institute in University of Southern California from Feb. 2001 to Mar. 2002. He was also a senior member of research staff at Spoken Language Processing Section in Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI), Korea from Feb. 1988 to Aug. 1997. He received a B.A degree in computer science from Keimyung University in 1986 and M.S and Ph.D. in computer science from KAIST in 1988 and 1996, respectively.

His research has always been in the area of natural language (written/spoken) understanding or technologies which relate to it, such as (deep) learning methods in natural language processing, corpus construction and representation, and language modeling. His research in this area has included work in the subareas of part-of-speech tagging, parsing, dialogue machine translation, information retrieval, information extraction, corpus representation for information encoding, sentiment analysis.
