Immerse yourself in a weekend of music-making with Suzuki students and teachers! The workshop includes a core curriculum for pianists, cellists, violists, and violinists in Suzuki Books 1 – 6, a Pre Twinkle violin Class; and the Every Child Can!© course for teachers and parents. We’ll kick off the weekend with a play-in on Friday evening, offer master classes, group classes, and enrichment classes with our renowned clinicians throughout the weekend, and end on Sunday with a concert for all participants. Summer is a perfect time of the year for musical motivation! Come enjoy a quality Suzuki Weekend in your own backyard. Make new friends while sharing the joy of making music!
Students participating in the full workshop must have polished their Twinkles. Participants will be placed in master classes and group classes according to age and repertoire. As with any Suzuki workshop, festival, or institute, repertoire must be played from memory, and parents or caregivers are required to attend classes.
Each student’s schedule includes one Master Class, four Group Classes, and two Enrichment Classes with our guest clinicians. Participants have the option to sign up for an additional master class (additional $40 tuition fee). Violinists who have completed Humoresque have the option to sign up for the Viola for Violinist class ($40 tuition fee). Friday evening and Saturday will include Play-Ins. The workshop will conclude with a gala concert on Sunday afternoon.
*Some master classes will be scheduled on Friday between 3:00 and 7:00 PM. Please indicate on the registration form if you are available during this time.
Pre-Twinkle Violin Class
On Saturday, July 9, we will offer a Pre-Twinkle class for beginner violinists (those who have not yet mastered Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and variations). Students must already have a private Suzuki violin teacher. Movement, posture, rhythm, and singing activities will be used to enhance foundational skills. Students who enroll in the Pre-Twinkle Class will also have the opportunity to participate in one enrichment class on Saturday.
Second Group Class for Piano, Cello, and select Violins
The second group class (Book 2 and up) for piano, cello, and select violins will either be chamber music or accompanying/working with a student accompanist. These two classes will focus on collaboration skills such as leading and following, cuing, dialogue, balance, and blending.
Viola for Violinists
New this year! Violinists will gain experience playing the viola. Students who have learned at least Humoresque on the violin will learn techniques specific to the viola, including reading the alto clef. Instruments will be provided for the class.
The New Jersey Suzuki Workshop, ECC Course, and Pre-Twinkle Violin Class will be held on the campus of The Lawrenceville School. Directions will be included in the confirmation packet.
