The meeting was convened at 3:15 pm.

Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted.

Treasurer's Report: Bonita reported that we have $1428.30 in our account and $89 in cash.

Membership Report: Carla stated that we have added one new member, bringing the total membership to 100. This is quite a milestone, since we had only 33 members when Carla took over this task.

Author Awards: Bonita reported that three winners have been selected: Frank A. Curcio for Hunterdon County's Forgotten Lime Industry, Alan M. Kraut and Deborah A. Kraut for Covenant of Care, Newark Beth Israel Hospital and the Jewish Hospital in America, and Deborah Yaffe for Other People's Children. The awards will be presented at the Advocates for NJ History Annual Meeting on October 14. Bonita is stepping down from the committee because she is going on sabbatical. A new committee member will be needed as well as a new chair.

Librarian Award: Ron reported that the winner this year is Joseph Klett. The award will be presented at Archives Day by Maxine.

Teacher Award: Alan reported that the announcement of the award will be distributed to social studies/history organizations for teachers. It was suggested that NJ History Day be added.

Archives Day: Gary announced that Maxine will be the keynote speaker. Fifty-four history organizations have registered so far for the event. There was a discussion of who would represent the NJSAA at this event.

NJ Forum: Marc described the November 22 Annual History Conference – New Jersey Forum. There will be 20 speakers at the event; the most recent person added to the program is Professor Kenneth Jackson of Columbia University. The Richard J. Hughes Award will be presented to the South Jersey Cultural Alliance.

Stellhorn Award Committee: Dick Waldron is the new chair of this committee. In his absence there was no report.

NJSAA Lecture Series: Maxine will present this lecture in January – the topic will be 17th century New Jersey. In March or April Howard Green will speak about Oral History. John Fea will speak in May.

New NJSAA Website: Carla has created the new NJSAA website, which can be viewed at www.njsaa.org. She also established an email address, infonjsaa@gmail.com. She is also seeking NJSAA photos and lists of award winners. Comments about the website should be sent to her.

History Issues Convention: Marc distributed a draft program for the HIC, which will be held on March 20, probably in Trenton. One suggestion on the program is that there should be a session for teachers and scholars.

Next meeting: Friday, January 14, 2009. The meeting will be from 3:00 – 4:00 pm, followed by Maxine's lecture.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:39 pm.

Respectfully Submitted

Marc Mappen
